Legalization: A Bad Idea As the development of society, more and more people are taking drugs around the world. The problem of drugs has evolved into a world topic in our lives, and people are arguing about it. Some people think that the harm of drugs is not in the imagination, based on human rights, should be legalized. In fact, some countries have legalized drugs, like Portugal has legalized for all drugs and the Netherlands has legalized marijuana. Because of this, the voice of drug legalization is growing more and more loudly around the world, including in the United States. No matter how loud we call for legalization, I think the danger of drugs still exists. I strongly disagree with the legalization of drugs; it is not a good idea, and we have to face up to its negative effects. First of all, legalization of drugs will seriously harm our physical and mental health, which causes lots of people using, especially for teenagers and children. In the article “There Would Be Many Negative Effects from Marijuana Legalization”, it points out that marijuana legalization would increase the numbers of teenagers using marijuana, which causes serious public health harms (American 5). We know that children are a curious group; if we legalize drugs, a series of advertising and publicity will follow; children are affected easily because they are vulnerable and lack judgment; once they are curious, they will be harmed and addicted. People who support legalization don’t understand the dangers of drugs, and the negative effects on health are often overlooked and unknown.
