Showtime’s television series, Dexter, directed by Keith Gordon, Marcos Siega, Ernest Dickerson and Adam Davidson, is a psychological thriller as well as a show centered around twisted crime. The show focuses on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a Miami-based blood splatter analyst who not only assists in solving murders but also commits them. Dexter is a serial killer, but only kills those who are guilty in order to feel justified with his lifestyle decisions.
The combination of clever dialogue, talented stars, and a strongly written storyline makes for one of the greatest shows of all time. Each and every main character was capable of holding my full attention but were also written with such deep intensity. For example, though Dexter is a serial killer, he is so likable. It is not easy to get an audience to truly love a serial killer. Michael C. Hall can play any emotion he is handed. Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), Dexter’s sister, fits her character beautifully, as does everyone else that was cast. The dialogue of the television show is written in a very serious tone with an underlying tint of dark comedy when it wants to be. A major conflict in the show Dexter is Morgan’s attempt at trying to keep his double lives separate so that nobody will find out about his hobby and his homicidal desires. While balancing his double-life, Dexter is trying to solve the principal matter of the show, an ongoing murder case. The show is one of those that is very difficult to solve but still holds your interest without trying. The conflict of the series never truly gets completely resolved.
