I believe climate change is now more than ever the biggest challenge that humanity faces. For that reason, people and communities need to cooperate together in order combat climate change. Following Trump’s presidency, debates were being made by the administration whether to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Change agreement, executive orders were signed dismantling Obama’s climate policies like the Clean Power Plan, and EPA was commanded to remove climate change information from its website. It was disheartening to experience, and many people including my family relocated to higher elevated locations in case the rising levels would be of impact. However, I knew that moving to higher grounds would not change the fact that the environment was changing and that Guam was slowly disappearing. President Barack Obama said, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” It was with this understanding and the image of Guam’s changing climate, which influenced my decision to move to the U.S. and obtain higher education in August 2014. Beyond preparing me for the challenges of adult life, the education from the University of Washington Tacoma will provide me with the knowledge to be able to create campaigns that raise awareness of climate change, advocate for companies to become more sustainable, and someday create a non-profit museum established to showcase artwork and objects based on the effects of climate change in different parts of the …show more content…

It was through my freshman leadership seminar class where I realized that my colleagues and I would be the next generation of workers. We will be the influence― our values, ethics, and leadership will help guide the businesses that we go on to work for and their decision making. I soon learned that the way people did business needed to change, and that I would be an advocate for sustainability within businesses and organizations. The education I am receiving from UWT is changing the very way I think; it is influencing me to learn and apply the courses I take to bring my high-impact goals to life.
