This essay considers Christianity and Politics with a focus on the candidates’ religious beliefs. It is worth to take a moment to figure out whether candidate’s individual religious faith “always or sometimes guides their political views” (Seeing Gray, 212). According to the author, the candidate’s religious beliefs and his or her practices are crucial to consider for voters to contemplate. This is due to the fact that when humans make a decision; their faith could be the contributing factor to make a right one. A Christian president would be an “individual of integrity, of honesty, of character-someone who puts the needs of others before their own” since they tend to abide by the Bible, a word of God. But, there is a problem since there is no way to realize if the candidate’s faith is solemn, of if he or she is pretending to believe in God just to earn more votes. For example, Adolf Hitler’s version of Christianity was different compared to those who embraced God personally and socially.
In my opinion, the candidate’s faith is difficult to believe and it is questionable whether the candidate’s faith could be even judged. For instance, in 2004, The U.S. president George Bush strongly emphasized about his faith. However, his policies were quite different from Christian perspectives. I agree with author’s suspicion on “Is being a devout Christian enough to make one a great president”. Could an exceptional president be a committed Christian? In my opinion, being a leader of the most powerful country and being a faithful president are two different concepts. Leadership is a skill to lead persuasively based on a variety of abilities such as motivating, guiding others and building respect from group members. If voters have to choose between two equivalently gifted and candidates with a variety of experiences, one who is a faithful Christian and the other is an atheist, then the voter should
