Overtime there has been a debate over whether or not the act of aborting a baby should be a legal option. This controversial issue continues to divide America. Many individuals that are pro-choice believe that choosing to have an abortion is a woman’s right that should not be judged by governmental or religious authorities. Many individuals that are pro-life believe that abortion is the immoral killing of an innocent human being. According to opponents, it is unfair to allow abortions when couples who cannot conceive are willing to adopt a child. There are many pro and con arguments over whether abortions should be legal. One of the Pro-choice arguments indicates that “reproductive choice empowers women by giving them control over their own bodies”, (abortions, ProCon.org). This indicates that it is a woman’s choice to have a child or not because it is crucial to a female’s independence and ability to establish her future. To support this …show more content…

According to this rebuttal statement, once the sperm enters the egg and it fertilizes, it is considered a human being. Therefore, human beings deserve the right to live. Based on this rebuttal, the opponent elaborately incorporates the biological beliefs from Jerome Legeune, the French geneticist, who discovered the chromosome abnormality that cause Down Syndrome. He stated, “to accept fact that after fertilization has taken place, a new human has come into being is no longer a matter of taste or opinion…the human nature of the human being from conception to old age is not a metaphysical contention, it is plain experimental evidence”. According to Legeune, after an egg is fertilized, it is out of one’s hands to pick and choose. Therefore, once one has become pregnant, they should not pick and chooseif they want to have a baby or if they want to abort
