To continue the production of the Lincoln Penny or, to completely abolish it? If the United States continues producing pennies we will continue to lose money and harm the environment. The United States should stop making pennies because they are doing more harm to us than good.
For example, each year the U.S. loses millions of dollars while producing pennies. Currently, it costs between 1.43 cents to 1.66 cents to produce a one cent coin. So, while the United States is trying to make money, they are actually losing money instead. According to, “How Much Does it Really Cost (the Planet) to Make a Penny”, the Mint has tried to find a cheaper alternative for the penny, but there simply isn’t one. Since there isn’t an alternative way, the penny production should be stopped.
Additionally, the negative environmental impact that pennies have on the Earth is devastating. Pennies are a non-recyclable object. So, once the material is used for the penny it can’t be made into anything else after the penny is done being used.
