More than 100 million animals worldwide are used for testing annually, and about a quarter of those animals die from being over tested. Animal testing is the use of animals for cosmetics, medical, biological, or psychological knowledge. Although gaining this knowledge is important, animals are put through pain, stress, and suffering in the process of experimentation. Animal Testing has been used for centuries, and as a result many animals are dying. If animals continue to be used for experimentation, then the amount of animals that are killed each year will continue to increase by the millions. In California a monkey had been bred for testing, its eyes were sewn shut for research for sight deprived people. The monkey was then saved by the Animal Liberation Front created in 1976 (Murnaghan). Another organization that was created to fight animal testing was the Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty campaign made in 1999. Their main focus was to get clients of companies to stop doing business with them. They shared that all businessmen care about is profit, not the animals (The Debate About Animal Testing 38). There are many more well known organizations that fight animal testing like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). PETA is one of the largest organizations that fights for animal rights. They work in the food industry, clothing, laboratories, and entertainment to fight against animal testing. The first law put into place to fight animal testing was Cruelty to Animals Act 1876 made in the United Kingdom. This law attempted to regulate the amount of animals used in testing (The Debate About Animal Testing 15). Another law that was put into place to regulate the amount of animals used for testing was the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act of 1986. Another law created in the fight against animal testing was the Guidance on the Operation of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act made in 1986. Animal testing is causing many laboratories to spend money that could be spent on making advancements to reduce animals testing. If these advancements are made and animals used for testing are reduced then laboratories would not have to spend as much money on feeding, caging, and transportation of animals. Animal testing in cosmetics can be totally banned saving many animals because of 3D printing human skin. By 3D printing human skin, cosmetics can be tested on the skin instead of animals. Advancements have been made in 3D printing human body parts such as, heart valves, ears, and bones (Mandoza). Money and animal’s lives could saved by testing on the 3D printed body parts instead of live animals. Advancements in science have been made so the amount of animals used for testing can be reduced, if the advancements are not used then many more animals will die and money will be spent that would not have to
