Ares was born to Zeus and Hera, and was commonly worshipped as the god of war. Many people associate him with Athena, however their methods and strategies for fighting were completely different from another. Unlike Athena, Ares used violence to solve issues, and some said he cause too much unnecessary bloodshed, which is why many disliked Ares. Ares was humiliated when he was caught sleeping with Aphrodite by Hephaestus. Hephaestus caught them with a finely made net and then brought all the gods to come watch, however the goddesses decided to not visit. Ares was considered to be very handsome and well liked for his looks, however he was disliked for his actions. In literature Ares symbols are the spear, helmet, dog, and vulture; he is associated with the spear and helmet because of his association with war and the battlefield. Ares is normally associated with humiliation in pieces of literary works primarily due to the incident with Aphrodite. Ares was infamous his dreadful bloodshed and his ability to make any situation violent and end with a death of some sort. Authors include Ares or a character with similar to traits to try and make plots more interesting, you will normally see him playing the role off the war general, or man in command that leads men into the battlefield. He is worshipped as the god of the sun, truth, and healing. He is not to be confused with any other gods that associate themselves with the sun, because he is the one who flies the chariot from east to west, in order to represent the suns movement. He fell in love with a woman named Daphne, however her father did not approve of this relationship and turned Daphne into a bush to protect her from Apollo. Eventually Apollo goes off and marries Clymene. Apollo plays a large role in men’s live as the god of healing, while his sister Artemis dealt with healing
