Are You Smarter Than a Chatbot?
We’ve all seen the Hollywood horror stories depicting the rise – and subsequent revolt – of intelligent bots. Though entertaining, these types of movies are part of the reason why many people have grown suspicious of AI and its potential (robot overlords, anyone?). The truth is, they depict an astoundingly inaccurate picture of where AI is today – and where it’s going. Believe it or not, the most popular application of AI in robotics at the moment is a helpful machine likely whirling its way around your living room right now – the Roomba. That’s a far cry from the T-1000.
But what will the future bring?
As the technology continues to advance, it’s showing incredible promise to impact a range of industries …show more content…

Additionally, driverless cars will help lower accident rates and improve road safety. Current models are equipped with sensors and technology that take in approximately 1000X more information than a human eye sees when operating a vehicle, allowing them to respond to events (e.g. child running out in front of a car) in about half the time a human could.
Biometric systems are also proving highly effective at borders and ports. Identity algorithms and fingerprint scanners are much more adept (15-1) at identifying people than passport agents who compare photos to faces.
But what about advice-based professions like doctors, lawyers or accountants that have always been seen as intrinsically humans? Will we soon be willing to accept legal advice from a bot? How about health care? Would you trust a machine to detect and diagnose an illness? What happens when a machine is able to absorb and synthesize data quicker than a human in these fields and provide the same level of advice? Just how smart do we want bots to be – and how can we be sure we balance progress while maintaining a human touch?
Here are a few ways AI is expected to transform the traditional advice
