During the 1700’s the Britain Colonist decided to declare war against Great Britain. The war began due to friction between the British colonists over the King's policies. The colonist eventually lost their patience and started a revolution. High taxes, and no religious freedom led the colonist to fight for self government. The number one reason that the colonists began protests, and boycotts, against the British was because they believed their natural rights as citizens were being violated. After the french and Indian War Great Britain was in massive debt. So the King began to tax the colonies. The Intolerable Acts is several acts the British government put in place to punish the colonist for disobeying. For example One act closed the Boston Harbor until the colonist paid for the lost tea and learned to respect the British Parliament. So the colonist called first Continental Congress meeting. This meeting consist of delegates from the colonies, in reaction to the heavy taxes forced by the British Government. This meeting made the colonist call for a revolution and freedoms from Britain control. There were many battles between the British and the colonists. Lexington and concord, and the battle of Bunker Hill and that's only two. Lexington and concord was the first war engagements held between the British and the people. Two hundred forty people died in Lexington and concord. Next was the battle at Bunker Hill. Bunker Hill was the deadliest battle throughout the revolutionary war. One thousand people perished In this engagement. However eventually the colonist also known as the Americans won this long fight for freedom. America won the revolutionary war in 1783. They were no longer under the rule of Great Britain. America was completely free and had no mother country. We became a democracy and was no longer a monarchy. With out competition the East India Company had full control over the prices they set. This infuriated the Colonists. Pamphlets and protests did not seem to be cutting it anymore, so some felt like action needed to be taken. The Sons of Liberty answered the call. In an act of defiance, “a few dozen of the Sons of Liberty, opposing new British laws in the colonies, systematically dumped three shiploads of tea into Boston harbor. They acted to prevent the royal authorities from collecting taxes on that import” (Bell). This made left Parliament infuriated. The first biggest problem was War debt. Due to the fact Britain helped the Colonists win the war. They felt that the colonists should help pay off the debt. They imposed taxes on the Colonists. It was a terrible failure. It created uproar and many people protested and boycotted British goods. One of the biggest events was the Boston Tea Party, where a group of men from the Sons of Liberty boarded a merchant ship and threw all the tea into the ocean. This was to protest the new tax on tea. Some say that the Revolution was destined to happen ever since Settlers set foot on this continent, others argue that it would not have happened if it weren't for a set of issues that finally drove the colonists to revolt. Ultimately, Britain lost control in 1765 when they gave in to the Stamp Act Congress’s boycotts against parliamentary taxation and gave them the idea that they had the power to run a country. To a lesser degree, Salutary Neglect led to the conception of a legacy of colonial religious and political ideals which set in motion an eminent conflict. In the 1770’s the American colonists were being taxed too much by the British and they started to want their independence. Britain was taxing the colonists to pay their debts from the French and Indian War. The colonists started to fight back by tarring and feathering some tax collectors. The British were trying to control the Americans entirely, with their monopoly on trade, and also thought that the Americans would do everything they demanded them to do. The colonists soon figured out Great Britain's angle on the situation. That was, they didn't understand why they were forced to pay taxes to the British, when they had no say in Britain's actions.

After The Seven Years’ War things began to change for the colonists. The war was extremely expensive for England, doubling the national debt. In order to pay off the debt the colonists were taxed. After failed attempts to protest against England things became violent, thus igniting The Revolutionary War. The Americans fought in The American Revolution and the War of 1812 in order to gain independence from England. They were able to be victorious on both occasions because they had a united front and England was spread then in global wars.

The American Revolution began as a conflict over political and social change, but soon developed into a dispute over personal rights and political liberty. A decade of conflicts between the British government and the Americans, starting with the Stamp Act in 1765 that eventually led to war in 1775, along with The Declaration of Independence in 1776. Americans united as one and knew that they wanted to be an independent country, have their own laws, rights, and not be colony of the Great Britain. They fought hard for their independence and people lost their lives in the process of it but in the end they succeeded.
