I want to earn my Master of Science in Biology from University of Nebraska, Kearney, with an emphasis in either cellular biology and physiology or genetics and molecular biology. As one of the best and one of the few universities to offer an online master’s program in biology, I expect you receive many more requests for entrance than you have positions to offer. If I could be a professional student, I would be. I am always wondering why, how, what if. Learning excites me and I have a hunger for more. I go to the local science museum in almost every place I vacation and enjoy new exhibits at the Houston Museum of Natural Science regularly. I spend almost every summer in a class of some kind. For example, I spent three weeks at the Astronomy Institute in Berkeley, California, last summer. There is always more to learn. Success in my studies is a constant expectation of myself as well. I have never had an incomplete, failed, repeated or dropped class.
Biology also excites me. I have known I wanted to work in biology since seventh grade and my career path has shown loyalty to that. After graduating in the top five percent of my high school class, I went to Texas A&M University in Commerce for one year. The following year I transferred to UT Arlington to complete my degree. I earned a BS in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry in December of 1990 with a GPA of 3.5. The following month I began work in research at Southern Methodist University studying tumor growth in plants. I continued my path in molecular biology and began doing research in the Neurobiology department of UT Southwestern Medical Center. Not everybody loves Biology,.. either do I. I always terrify at those subjects. They are difficult, dry, bloody, and involved to a lot of memorization. A side from that there are tons of reasons that hold me back from becoming a nurse. I don’t like the subjects, I am scared of blood. Despite all of that, I found that it is challenging.When I was in 11th grade I had the passion for chemistry. I like doing all the labs, observing chemical reactions, and combine or calculate the percentage of substances. I always think that chemistry is the most excited class I have ever took besides math, and foreign language.
In closing, I am excited to embrace an opportunity to further my education through the University of New England as I begin my pursuit to acquire an administrative position within my school division. Due to the demands of school and extra-curricular commitments, the fact that I live outside of a city on an acreage in a province where we often have poor driving and weather conditions, along with the desire to find a sense of balance with my family life, I feel that your online courses will allow me to budget my time accordingly.
Whenever asked what my favourite subject is, Biology has been, and will always be, my only answer. It was bewildering to compare my body to a machine working harmoniously. The digestive system, the respiratory system and the circulatory system are coordinating with each other right underneath my skin. Realising that the 'blue lines' visible beneath the flesh of my hands are actually veins carrying deoxygenated blood fueled my desire to know more about how my body functions. To me, it has always been about getting to know my self better.

I have always been intrigued by the field of science and that is the reason I pursued the field of Biochemistry for my undergraduate studies. How The Human body works and the different determinants that can affect one's health or a community as a whole have always been captivating to me. I wanted to emerge in a profession that is beneficial for me, my community, and the world I live in. I came to realize through various science courses and health care experiences that a career in health care was the best path for me to outreach my community and the world.
The field experience was very effective in progressing myself professionally. My next steps will be to further my research training.
