The Diary of a Young Girl

“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.” ~ Rikki Rogers. I believe that this quote fits “The Diary of a Young Girl”, by Anne Frank well because all of the people who were affected by the Holocaust had their own challenges that they had to overcome. Battles were fought physically and mentally by every person living through the Holocaust, sacrifices were made by everyone. The Diary of a Young Girl is an inspiring and unique set of diary entries written by 16 year old Anne Frank during the Holocaust. After the Van Daans and Mr. Dussel moved in, it became very crowded and busy in their little hideout. Anne had a very bold personality and she was never afraid to share her thoughts about any given subject, this sometimes got her into trouble with the others. “Firstly, because everyone is happy if I don’t chatter the whole time, and secondly, I needn’t get annoyed about other people’s opinions. I don’t think my opinions are stupid and the others do; so it is better to keep them to myself.” Anne and Mrs. Van Daan hardly ever spoke and when they did they were often bickering over something that Anne had done that Mrs. Van Daan did not deem appropriate for a young girl. It would have taken great emotional and mental strength to remain in the Annex with someone that Anne did not get along with. When her and Mrs. Van Daan had a disagreement, there was nowhere for Anne to go without another soul following her. If she fought with anyone, each member of the Annex heard what was said and it often led to disturbance between multiple people. I admire the strength and courage that Anne had when standing up to Mrs. Van Daan and even to her own mother, this is a wonderful example of the great strength that was buried deep within little
