Animal testing can be reduced but not replaced
Animal testing has been present since old times. In the past century it was used to satisfy the curiosity of many scientist that wanted to understand how the body functioned. This scientist made many medical discoveries. For example every time someone takes antibiotics, recieves a blood transfusion, gets a surgery, or a chemotherapy they have just received benefits from a research that started with animal testing. Now in days animal testing is essential in the medical field, it is required to test any type of medicine or procedure on animals before using it on humans. However due to the dependability scientist have and the poor regulations on animal testing , many institutions are looking forward to invest in creating and developing new technology that can minimise the use of animals. But even though technology has been improved it is impossible to completely replace animal testing .
In the past animals where used to analyse different patterns and understand basic functions of the body as same as scientist do in actuality. The difference between the animal testing in the past and actuality, is that in the past scientists employed more painfull methods due to the lack of use of anesthesia. For example, many scientist opened animals that where alive to be able to see their organs and how they worked. Many of these animal testing and research lead to the cure of illness and others lead to the discoverie of therapies. HIV/AIDS is one of the illness that most affect humans and it is impossible to cure, but thanks to many research and many treatment that have been tested on animals, scientist can at least prolonge the expectancy of the life of the patient. According to Elizabeth ...

...inues helping to develop new treatments or knowledge that may guide to the cure of ilnesses. But has certain imitations that have to be clarified, animal research helps scientists to see the expected must not real stages of an illness or drug. By saying expected it is sure to assume that the result obatained from an animal may not be exactly the same that will be obtained from humans due to the many factors that influence this outcome such as genetic, controll of food and liquids, temperature, among others. Technology is now an option to replace some methods used to obtain data from animals, but it is important to highlight that technology may only reduce must not replace the use of animal testing. Animal research is significantly important for the medical field and should be used to benefit us, but alternatives should be used as much as possible if they are available
Without animal research, cures for such diseases as typhoid, diphtheria, and polio might never have existed. Without animal research, the development of antibiotics and insulin would have been delayed. Without animal research, many human beings would now be dead. However, because of animal testing, 200,000 dogs, 50,000 cats, 60,000 primates, 1.5 million hamsters, and uncounted millions of rats and mice are experimented upon and die each year, as living fodder for the great human scientific machine. Some would say that animal research is an integral part of progress; unfortunately, this is often true. On the whole, animal testing is a necessary evil that should be reduced and eliminated whenever possible.
At the turn of the new century, activists began to protest the morality of animal experimentation: “. such methodology is far too cruel on beast, it cannot better mankind, but it leads to its demise.” Despite the rising concern for animal safety in laboratory research, federal legislation approved the practice. According to the federal bureaucrats, it is an essential tool to improve our current medical knowledge. Hence, most of the tested animals have a relatively shorter lifespan than humans. Thus, it allows to test long-term disease in a smaller timeframe.
Medical sciences are required to keep us healthy when there are diseases spreading and animal testing is a key part of this research. Animal test is not wrong because it is the only way to keep ahead in the arms race against disease. Disease keep changing and evolving so scientist must keep researching and making stronger, more potent medicines to combat them. Thus we must use living creatures as test subject for the medicines.
Nowadays, with the modern technology, it would be really easy to find alternative procedures to find a cure for a certain disease or to test if a certain cosmetic product is safe. Also, it would be easier to find an alternative way to test beauty products instead of making animals blind. Even though it is a fact that experimenting with the help of the advanced technology with no animals involved is cheaper than torturing animals, animal testing is still on-going. This is one of the many reasons why animal testing should be banned and scientists should intensively search for alternatives where no living being will be harmed or killed.
According to the California Biomedical Research Association, almost every medical advancement in the last 100 years is a direct result of animal testing and research. The use of animals has become standard procedure in a wide range of testing and experimentation, including product toxicity testing, biomedical and veterinary experiments, drug development and testing, and education. Major advancements in treating and understanding chronic conditions such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, malaria, and tuberculosis, have been achieved due to animal research. Also, the development of pacemakers, cardiac valve substitutes, and anesthetics are also direct results of the testing and observation of animals. On the other hand, many people believe that animal testing is cruel and inhumane. In many laboratories animals are subjected to force feeding, food and water deprivation, physical restraints, and infliction of pain. Because the animals cannot protect themselves, many people argue that exploiting animals to better the lives of humans is wrong and should not be permitted.
Certain countries are considering a ban on animal testing and experimentation. I disagree with this ban on animal testing. While it may seem that animal testing is cruel and unethical, it has helped both humans and animals in many ways. For example, many horrible diseases that have been cured have, at some point used animal testing. This and many other reasons is why there should not be a ban on animal testing.
Throughout history, animal testing has played an important role in leading to new discoveries and human benefit. However, what many people forget are the great numbers of animals that have suffered serious harm during the process of animal testing. Animal testing is the use of animals in biological, medical, and psychological studies. The development and enhancement of medical research has been based on the testing of animals. There are many questions being asked if animal research is good or not or if the benefit for us is way greater the abuse of animals. Doing tests on animals can help find ways to cure diseases, but testing on them is wrong. Although we want to find cures for diseases to help many people, testing on animals not only brutally hurts them but it also denies the animals the rights they have.
Animal testing has been used for developing and researching cures for medical conditions. For example, the polio vaccine, chemotherapy for cancer, insulin treatment for diabetes, organ transplants and blood transfusions are just some of the important advances that have come from research on animals (“Animal Testing”). Consuming animals for research benefits in developing various treatments and also benefits in discovery better methods for cures. According to the article “Animal Testing”, it says that the underlying rationale for the use of animal testing is that living organisms provide interactive, dynamic systems that scientists can observe and manipulate in order to understand normal and pathological functioning as well as the effectiveness of medical interventions. It relies on the physiological and anatomical similarities between humans and other animals (MacClellan, Joel). Meaning that animals have the same body components and features as humans and is the best thing to research on to better understand the human development. Even though several argue that animal testing is harming the animals, one has to think back to all the benefits that has come from it. There may be a little remorse for endangering animal lives, but realizing how far medicine has come makes it worth the while.
Picture yourself in a testing laboratory; needles, drugs, and knives pointed in your direction with you having no idea what’s going on around you, this is how animals everyday are treated, we have to stop this now! Millions of animals are killed in laboratories everyday with no chance to object to what the testers are about to do to them. Animals feel as much pain as humans do so why does it make it okay to test on them when they are so alike to humans? Every day people test makeup, shampoos, and medicines on animals, the strange thing is that animals have different skin, hair, and internal organs than humans have. Since the animals have different internal organs than humans only 5-25% of the testing results are agreeable between animals and humans. Humans don’t allow animals to have the right to say that they don’t want to be tested on, but humans have the rights to say they do or do not want to be tested on. There are many non-animal alternatives that humans can use to test products, but many testers refuse to use them. Do you think that these animals enjoy being tested on?! Animals are being tormented everyday in laboratories, animal testing must stop!
Using animals as testing models for scientific research has become one of the serious issues in the world. According to Procon.org, almost 26 million animals are used for scientific testing every year in the United States, and more than 10 thousand animals died in those testing experiments. Many scientists believe that animal testing is necessary because it can help humans to develop more scientific research. However, the truth is that many animal testing experiments usually fail when they are used in humans. Therefore, animal testing should be banned because human’s DNA is not similar to animals, there have better ways, and animals have right.
Hundreds of millions of animals die every year from animal testing in the United States. Innocent animals are used everyday in laboratories for biology advancements, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetic testing. They are used to provide information to make better products that are safe for human use. Although animal experimentation has some benefits, the negatives outweigh the positives. Animal testing is killing off innocent beings for the possible human benefit, and with modern technology, there are alternative ways to test products that leave animals unharmed.
However, as people think about animal rights, and the news that animals are suffering in the experiment, people began to consider stopping all animal testing. Animal testing should not be banned, because it both benefits humans and animals, especially the medical animal testing should be reserved. According to the book “Science, Medicine, and Animals” by the Committee on the Use of Animals in Research, National Academy of Sciences (1991), the animals also provide protection to a lot of endangered animals. Scientists can invent medicine, which is used to treat animal diseases, from animal experiments.
Animal testing hasn’t been beneficiary towards any scientific breakthrough or discovery. Elias Zourhini says, “Animal testing has been useless” he is one of the main people who are strongly making a push to try and stop animal testing as a whole. “There have been thousands of dead and injured animals in the past years or so and there has been any reward or safety ensured because of these animals. Animals have been being used for testing for many years now, and especially now, the number of animals that are being used to be experimented on are extremely high. However, you may not know that laboratories aren’t required to publish how many animals they used or how many experiments conducted. Maybe that would help to find out especially what animals need to be strongly protected against testing. “Every laboratory should publish an annual statement setting forth plainly the number and kind of experiments and the methods of conducting them” (Gould qd. in Leffingwell 211). This would help many things and especially organizations that are protesting, to give reasons and facts about testing. Animals are used and then unaccounted for. Truly, you may never know h...
Animals are used in research to develop new medicines and for scientists to test the safety of the medicines. This animal testing is called vivisection. Research is being carried out at universities, medical schools and even in primary and elementary schools as well as in commercial facilities which provide animal experiments to industry. (UK Parliament) In addition, animals are also used in cosmetic testing, toxicology tests, “defense research” and “xenotransplantation”. All around the world, a huge amount of animals are sentenced to life in a laboratory cage and they are obliged to feel loneliness and pain. In addition scientists causing pain, most drugs that pas successfully in animals fail in humans. It is qualified as a bad science. Above all, animals have rights not to be harmed even though the Animal Welfare Act does not provide them even with minimal protection. The law does not find it necessary to use current alternatives to animals, even if they are obtainable. Animal testing should be banned due to animal rights, ethical issues, alternative ways and the unreliability of test results in humans.
Animal experimentation can help out scientists to develop new life-saving treatments or drugs for humans. The biggest enemy for humans is a new epidemic disease because it can be spread widely in a short period of time and the scientists may not have enough information to create a vaccination instantly. Such as polio, it killed a lot of people in the early twenty centuries in the United States. When polio first appeared in United States, people were helpless and they were suffering from the virus because they did not have any instant medication or vaccination to help them. Meanwhile, scientists were using animal experimentation to create the vaccine. They examined their vaccine on the monkeys. As a result, they created an...
