The issue of animal testing has been a hot topic for many years. People who believe it is necessary to use animals in scientific and commercial research most likely argue that the practice has contributed to many life-saving cures and treatments and that testing on them is similar to a human therefore results are more accurate. Those who oppose animal testing believe that alternatives are far more efficient and that animal experimentation is not reliable to its results. These people fight animal testing because animals deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation. According to Carol Howard from John Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing, many companies no longer test on animals at all, and those that do use far fewer animals and more humane methods (Howard 2009). She continues to explain how a company she was in close contact with became more successful once they implemented alternatives. By using a different approach in testing products, a company gains a more respectful reputation and success. Another example is a local makeup company from New Jersey. By switching to vitro glass tube testing rather than testing their products on rabbits, Makeup Revolution began to advertise against animal testing (PETA 2015). When people see advertisements for animal cruelty free products they are more likely to be attracted to them. Lawrence Corey is among one of the many animal testing researchers at Cornell University and he says, “Most human products are tested on animals who have a similar body structure and anatomy to humans.
