In the novel's 1984 and Animal Farm by George Orwell both stories have similar themes about governments where they have all power and everyone is "equal". 1984 is set in Oceania, a fictional place set in the "future". Napoleon had denounced such ideas as contrary to the spirit of Animalism. The truest happiness, he said, lay in working hard and living frugally.” (118) Napoleon has now turned the Animal Farm into a place where money is what makes everyone happy but, that really isn’t true to all people as many of the citizens of the Animal Farm are not happy. But, Napoleon has everyone so brainwashed that they believe that they are living happy, normal, lives. Once again the themes of 1984 and Animal Farm are the same, everyone believe that they are living happily but, they are really all brainwashed by Big Brother, O’Brien, and the rest of the ruling party and by Napoleon in Animal Farm.
