In film class, we watched a movie called Back to the Future directed by Robert Zemeckis. The movie is a 1980s sci-fi movie that takes place in California. The movie is about traveling through time in a modified car and the main character meets his younger parents. The main character, Marty McFly needs to have his parents to fall in love, or he won't be born in the future. Back to the Future is a sci-fi movie that was released on July 3, 1985. Back to the Future is a science themed movie, and everything that happens is fake, which making the movie genre sci-fi. The first example of sci-fi in this movie is the whole meaning of time travel. It is physically impossible to travel back in time or to progress forward in time. Another example is the explosion of the amp when Marty …show more content…
The definition of an action movie is a genre in which the main character /s end up in a series of challenges that typically include violence, extended fighting, physical feats, and frantic chases. This movie fits the genre of action because of the whole time traveling situation. The scenes of time traveling make the audience feel like the time traveling situation won’t work as expected and everything will go wrong. This movie makes the audience feel like they are on edge during the movie and don’t know what to expect next. Another example is when Bully Biff beats up and fights Marty and George McFly for talking to his girl. The fight scenes make it seem like Billy will always win, but the people that Billy is trying to fight, always win. The last example is when Marty tried to save Doc’s life towards the end of the movie. That scene was packed with all sorts of action, and the audience thought Doc actually died and that Marty would have been shot at as well. To sum things up, this movie has a lot of action in it as well as sci-fi, and that ties the movie together will with a great plot line and
The 1980’s brought about a change to movies after Americas’ loss in the Vietnam War. In the light of this, America felt that their masculinity was in question. In result, Hollywood responded to these feelings by making movies that had strong male characters, known as “hard bodies” (Sklar 346). Furthermore, according to Movie Made America, the characteristics of a hard body are “heroic, aggressive, and determined” (Sklar 346). One such movie that exhibits this is the Terminator, directed by James Cameron and released in 1984. The movie is about Sarah Conner, a teenager, who is being hunted by the Terminator, a robot sent from the future to kill her. In the first and the last scene featuring the Terminator, two hard body characteristics, aggression
“If you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything” – Robert Zemeckis. Back to the Future is an American Classic that is on the minds of people around the world with images of Doc Brown’s shiny time travelling DeLorean. In 2007, The American government acknowledged the importance of the movie Back to the Future and its relativeness to American culture by introducing it into the National Film Registry. This award officially certified the movie in being a “culturally” important work that will be preserved for all of time, there by deeming it as a significant non-traditional “cultural media” in American society.
It doesn't rely purely on thrills and explosions; rather, it creates characters that are worth caring about and situations people can relate to. Speed is about as close to a perfect action movie as you can get. Charismatic hero, an engaging love interest, a suitably evil and diabolical villain, and (of course) many, many explosive and awesome action sequences. It is certainly one of the best action films of all time and without a doubt is a classic example of the action movie genre.
The historical drama of “The Conspirator” (Redford) is using scenes to reveal the background of the Lincoln assassination in 1865, on Good Friday. The authors of the movie are attempting to reveal the plot behind the scenes, and the role of individuals in killing Lincoln, as well as their true intentions in doing so. The movie was an answer to some of the misconceptions about Lincoln’s final years, as well as the political forces that led to the events. The main focus of the movie is to reveal Mary Surratt’s involvement in the conspiracy. Entertainment and historical correctness, however, does not always walk hand in hand, therefore, it is important to review whether or not the account represented by the film is accurate, and
This is suppose to show significance of science fiction so the audience would except to see in the future. The Director chose the film to be a science fiction genre is because the story line and the type of story could show that it was a science fiction genre. The theme is often reflected in the title. In this type of genre it would normally show the importance of freedom and the use of political power to protect countries. So in Independence Day the theme is 'a superior power that has come to destroy planet earth and the Americans have to use their political power and their weaponry to protect the earth.'
The Time Machine is about a man who is a scientist and he wants to see
As long as sci-fi continues to re-invent itself, the genre will remain relevant, challenging, and entertaining, which is why it will survive as long as cinema itself.
Director Christopher Nolan′s film Memento (2000), is loosely based from the concept of a short story named Memento Mori written by his brother Jonathan. This story is about a man named Leonard Shelby who is suffering from anterograde amnesia, which is a loss of ability to create new memories after the event that caused the amnesia, leading to a partial or complete inability to recall the recent past, while long term memories from before the event remain intact. Leonard was hit over the head during an attack which resulted in his wife being raped and murdered. With the help of contact named Teddy and a bartender named Natalie, Leonard set out for revenge. Since the attack Leonard has set out to exact revenge on the man who has caused him suffering. He helps himself by writing notes, taking photographs, and tattooing himself with important notes and facts. An analysis of the film Memento reveals the use of film techniques such as editing, non-linear storytelling, symbolism, director's style, musical score, color, and cinematography that creates an intellectual stimulant that has the viewer deciphering a puzzle in a reversed chronological order.
Memento is a movie that makes the audience thinks and reflects back to themselves about their identity and their existence. Lenny is the person who experienced anterograde amnesia which is losing the ability to make new memories after the event happened in the past. After a short period of time, he would not remember what he did before. This problem happened when the a man raped and killed his wife and attacked him in the head;therefore, this is the only memory that he had left. Everyday, his mission is to find a guy who murdered his wife even though he had no clue about the man but he collected evidence by hand-written note, polaroid pictures and also tattoos all over his body. I believe that this movie wants to give the idea of personal identity according to memories and in my opinion, memories are important to identify a person since it develops a character from the past to the present. Even though according to Lenny he believes that memories are unreliable source and collecting facts by records are more important because in his case he has no other choice to keep track of his memories like other people. Therefore, this case actually links to the theory of Descartes who believes that self exists according to dualism, rationalism and science, Locke’s theory is self can known through sense experiences, Hume’s thought is self doesn’t exist since we are bundle of sensation, Kant thinks that anything that we experience is having it own self and it is the idea that he called “transcendental unity” and finally the idea of Hegel is the dialectic of the self which define as humans have both absolute and spirit in themselves.
Blade Runner directed by Ridley Scott is a science fiction thriller released in 1982. Scott uses many elements of cinema such as mise-en-scene, cinematography and editing to make his movie one of the best science fiction movies of all time. With his movie Blade Runner, Scott captures the idea of an archetypal postmodern view of females as it relates to the society in his fictional world.
Back to the Future, from 1985, directed by Robert Zemeckis, is an example of classical Hollywood narrative. The story is moved along by the motivation of the main character, Marty McFly, who must return to 1985 after having accidentally escaped to 1955 on the time-travelling DeLorean and ends up accidentally altering his own timeline by intruding on his parents’ lives.
In one of his former theories, the TT assumes that the Morlocks, the inferior race (at this point in time) which lives in the underworld, are the direct outcome of England’s East-end worker, who already live “in such artificial conditions as practically to be cut off from the natural surface of the earth.” (page 77, line 17)
Action films contain lots of physical stunts, chase scenes, rescues, fights, humour, destructive disaster (Explosions, floods, fires, natural hazards), escapes, and non-stop action. People expect the stunts when they come to see an action film, because the stunts and fights are what make the film so popular. Action films are normally set in either popular cities or glamorous islands. I watched a film to see if it fitted the expectations of what id expect from a typical action film, the film I watched was twister. Twister doesn't fit the expectations of an action film entirely, it is different to what I would expect from an action film, however it does
Are we human if we don’t have a choice to choose between acting good or acting evil? A Clockwork Orange directed by Stanley Kubrick is a brutal film that entails many sociological meanings. Alex DeLarge and his “droogs” (gang) live in a derange society of “ultra-violence” and rape. Alex and his gang cause havoc around the town that leads to the “droogs” turning on Alex during a mischievous act on an innocent women and Alex getting arrested. While in prison he is chosen for “treatment” that is suppose to purify Alex and turn him into the “perfect citizen”. We’ve gone over many sociological concepts in class, but the three that I believe apply the most to this film are socialization, deviance, and resocialization.
Many days ago I watched The Butterfly Effect. The movie begins with a sentence that impress me very much.
