Although technology is rapidly growing in today's world many parents refuse to let their children use social media because of the high risk of being cyberbullied. I believe that minors should be allowed to use social media because it gives them a chance to express who they are and helps them make new friends with the same interests. A survey taken back in 2015 showed that 58% of teens felt more comfortable expressing who they are online. With teens being comfortable in who they are they feel more relaxed in what they post because they don't care if their posts are unique from anyone else. For example teens that suffer from anxiety can use social media to talk to new people who suffer from anxiety too. Teens with anxiety don't have to feel anxious when talking to someone face to face instead they can talk to other kids their age online. Social media allows teens to meet someone new or get closer to someone they already know. Statistics showed that about 35% of people met someone online who is now one of their close friends. The majority of people want to know someone who has the same interests as them so by meeting someone online they can easily find out what they like to do. Although social media is convenient in different ways many parents are against letting their child use one because of the high risk of being cyberbullied. However, cyberbullying can be prevented by monitoring the people who follow a child on their social media page. For example a child should always have their account private. By having a private account teens are allowed to deny, block or report anyone that follows or wants to follow them, which will give them an even lesser chance of being
