According to a report by CNBC, “In 2013, the average amount of money awarded to NCAA Division 1 athletes was $13,821 for men and $14,660 for women.” College athletes receive scholarships to participate in sports which cover their tuition, books and even room and board while many non-athlete students struggle to attend college and many families even go into debt to send their family member to college. Many believe college athletes should be paid to play because the athletes cannot work due to the amount of time they spend practicing and playing their sport leaving them with no money.
