Payday College athletes should be paid for playing their sport. They do an enormous amount of work for their universities by bringing in a massive amount of money and should be rewarded with some of that money. They can struggle holding a job that will work with their busy schedules with having to practice and study for several hours a day. They leave school early in order to pursue a professional career in their sport.
College athletes do not have reasonable time for a sufficient paying job with them having to practice and study, therefore paying them to play would provide them with an income. Division I baseball players can spend up to 42.1 hours a week on their sport during the season and 31.7 hours on their academics (O’ Shaugnhessy). …show more content…

Yes, athletes are already being compensated with financial assistance, but paying them to play would encourage them to stay in school longer. College basketball and baseball players must participate for at least 1 year before they can go pro. Football players must go for 3 years before they can leave to go play professional. Since these athletes cannot hold down a job and they are not getting paid, why would they want to stay in school when they could go play professional as soon as they could and make millions? When they leave school early they are throwing away their scholarship and education. If they leave school early and do not make it in the professionals, it would be pretty hard for them to find a job with an incomplete education. Many people believe college athletes should be paid. They do not have time to hold a part-time job down with all the hours they spend on practicing and school, they rake in money for their universities through merchandising but do not receive any of it, and it would keep them from leaving school ready which throws away their education and scholarship.
