Recommended: The importance of music and art

Memories flood my palate like the sensory effects of having popcorn at a showing, featuring and directed by yours truly. It has the unique ability to grab hold of my emotions like the grip of pain medicine to an addict. The holistic therapy of rhythmic sounds soothes my spirit and I’m saturated with overwhelming feelings that hijack me to a familiar place once upon a time, long ago or transfer me into the future where I meet with my undeveloped hopes and empty dreams. I can transport from present time, to my worst childhood memories all in a moments time. It’s a trigger for pain of an intense loss once felt and yet I’m able to sense the beginning of a dreaded chapter coming to an end. It’s like a measuring stick for wounds healing. Familiar
It involves self-awareness and internal perceptions. Music and poetry can invoke strong feelings; according to Word Press article. “Specifically, this can be seen in his poem, The Weary Blues. Although the reader cannot hear the song, the reader is able to feel the song. In addition, the reader is able to identify the sadness with the identity of African American people during this era. The synonyms for “sad” used throughout the poem, echoes a sense of loss or mourning.” according to Word Press article. Both music and poetry can leave us vulnerable to connecting with our emotions.
They provide us with the language needed to put emotions into words when one can’t quite wrap your mind around how they feel. Blasing, Mutlu Konuk. Princeton, from the
N.J.: Princeton University Press 2007 states that lyric poetry has long been regarded as the intensely private, emotional expression of individuals, powerful precisely because it draws readers into personal worlds.
As mentioned before the similarities in music and poetry are clear. The two are like lyrical cousins. They are a form of language that include words that are handsomely united in a creative form. The power of words is dominating. From the bible to positive
Events, emotions, and words can be one of the most powerful tools that we can tap into therefore, poetry and music can summon memories of past experiences, visuals of daydreams, futuristic thoughts, and colorful language.
