Review all of the lessons at night before the examination is what the examinees usually do. Most examinees consider that if they read and prepare themselves for the exam too early, they might forget. The reason is understandable but the truth is it known to increase a lot of stress if examinee can’t perceive and remember the lesson. The important thing that can always raise the chance of performing well is to prepare themselves continuously and managing the time. The process of preparing for the examination can be described in four simple steps. First of all, the thing that everyone should concern is to prepare for class and time managing. This step can be compared to the process of warming up for exercising. Warming can avoid the pain from …show more content…
Many students have ignored this step because they usually study the lecture by themselves. By the way, there are several reasons to pay attention in class. First reason, the instructor will point out the most important part which self-reader cannot focus on. Also, this reason can save the time when reviewing before the exam because of the understanding so some topic can be pass and focus on another topic else. The second reason is when having the confusion, a student can ask the instructor for more explanation immediately. Another reason which is involved in-class activity. Taking a role in class activity as possible such as the discussion is also important because it can help learning the different information and opinion from others. Owing to the article from the blog of WriteMyEssay4Me.org. The writer recommends the way to pay attention to the class which the discussion and sharing point of view can help the student understand the …show more content…
Before is not mean the night before the exam. Reading hard at night before the exam or few hours before the exam is not affect anything instead of pressure and stress. The performance of remembering will be decreased accordingly to the time. The articles in many websites which suggest the things that should do at night before exam never told the reader to read hard all night. For example, from brightnetwork.co.uk in the topic of “Top Tips for the night before, and the morning of, an exam”, the article just suggests the reader should relax and make sure about rules, requirements, and physical
A goal I have for academics is to not fail any quizzes or tests. One way I can do this is to study before every quiz and test. I can do this by making a good study guide and good notes for myself. I will also ask many questions so I can so I can know all the information. If I am confused on a question, I should ask questions so I can understand what will be asked on the test. One of the most important things I need to do to help my test grade is pay attention in class. If I take plenty of notes and listen to the lesson, I will have resources to study off of so I will do well. This year, I should do well on all of my tests and quizzes as long as I study, pay attention in class, and ask plenty of questions.
One of my studying techniques is to have one of my family members verbally assess me on the topic of examination based on information in my textbook for the given subject. This compares to what I have just learned because I sometimes alter the location of study during these sessions, such as one time in the dining room and one time in another room of the house. However, I would always stay on one subject for a long time, which may not have been a very good idea. Another studying technique that I used to have was studying the night before or the morning of the exam because I thought (with the influence of a girl from my fifth grade class) that the information would be easy to retain since it was so recently reviewed. This compares to the article since all of the material comes back to me, but is mostly forgotten long after I take the examination. This goes along with the scientific study mentioned in the article that students who had two studying sessions did exceptionally well on a test given right after the sessions, but gradually forgot the material (Carey, 2010). An additional studying condition I have is to do practice problems and tests on the material I will be tested on. This connects to the reading for the reason that I am being exposed to a variety of problems, which, according to the text, is a brilliant way to review. My studying habits will be adjusted to
Everyone has its strength and weaknesses, it can see from when the exam is around the corner. Some students will prepare early but some are not.
... all, everyone is different in their own respective way and some people might have the ability to simply comprehend all they hear, unlike myself I feel like I teach myself more on my own or with others than if I were sitting down and taking notes. The only problem with just listening during a lecture is that people don’t retain all that information over a long period of time. Most of the information is stored in the brain until that test comes and all the information leaves when you hand in the test.
As the great American author, Elizabeth Gilbert states “No experience in this world has even been cathartic without the willing participation of the individual. Life does not automatically bestow wisdom or growth upon anyone just for showing up. Similarly in CSC290, if an individual does not willingly participate in class and tutorial, the individual will be unable to attain wisdom showered by the Professor and TA. The Professor and TA will always have the best intention of teaching each and every student to the best of their abilities but they cannot read the minds of students, therefore it the responsibility of students to ask questions to clarify their doubts. Also, the process of asking questions in class builds courage and addresses questions
As pointed out by Professor Stephen Lucas “The most important cause of poor listening is giving into distractions and letting our thoughts wander” (Lucas 60.) There are a few tips that can help any student, businessperson or friend listen more attentively. The first step to gaining full focus in class is by getting rid of distractions. These days one of the most prominent distractions is that little device that is no further than 3 feet away from you at this and every moment. The cell phone. If you think you can listen to a lecture, text your friend, take notes and play Clash of Clans on your phone at the same time you are horribly mistaken. In the book Brain Rules by John Medina, the author (a noted developmental molecular biologist) points out the fact that it is impossible for our minds to multitask, not difficult, impossible! So at least get rid of the phone when you are trying to actively listen. Another basic yet affective way to assist in actively listening is simply taking notes. By taking notes you’re not only creating a record of the information expressed but you’re are also more likely to absorb the material. With that said, don’t be the student that included every “the” the professor said during his lecture in his notes. Though from one extreme to the next, you also want to refrain from being the student that ends up with only a few irrelevant facts on his notebook paper at the conclusion of the lecture. While taking notes be sure to focus on main points and what the speaker is presenting as a whole. Another vital tip to developing your listening skills is to keep your mind in the moment. One of the biggest distractions that we must overcome is the mind, if you can master the art of focusing your mind on what you are doing or listening to, you can come to be a skilled listener. This sounds like an easy task, but what you don’t realize is how scattered our minds are. Think of when you are
The different types of learning styles are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Visual learners prefer to study with the aid of visual stimulus like diagrams, images, drawings, mind-maps. Auditory learners prefer to study by listening, watching videos with sound, and reading out loud. Kinesthetic learners prefer to study by actually doing an activity, writing out notes while in a lecture, doodling while listening, or practical work. These learning styles will benefit you in developing a studying and note-taking routine. When you know your learning style, you can adapt your notes accordingly. For example, visual learners may want to use symbols or color coding while kinesthetic learners may want to use doodles to display information. Note-taking is an effective way of studying and will help students feel more confident when exam time comes around. In addition, simply reading through textbook pages is not effective, you must annotate your text to fully process the information. For example, highlighting the text is a good way to emphasize the main concepts that you will need to grasp for the exams. No one is going to take your exams for you so it is best that you adapt your note taking and reading methods to fit you
I will high light key phrases or things that I know that is important to remember. I will go through my notes, my text book, lectures from class ect., and I will take pieces of information from different topics. These pieces of information are usually important to me, because they will remind me of other material that I just can not get stored into my memory, and fills in the blanks for me. Chunking works for me when I have so much material to try to remember that seems impossible to obtain it all, just chuck the info and viola, you will be prepared for the test, or to have the knowledge you
Personally, I am an advocate for cramming the day before the test, but not right before bed. Instead, I study first, do a little bit of homework, study some more, finish my homework, and then study once again. If I study a little bit each night, by the fourth or fifth night I will begin to feel as if I have over-studied and then begin mixing up each piece of information. In this essay, I have compared and contrasted both methods and it should be much easier for each student to choose a way that works best for them. Both methods can be effective, it just depends on the students’ personality in general.
Test taking is one of the most important things to have good skills at. Test usually have a significant effect on your grade. The more you are used to test and are prepared for different types of test, the better your grade will be. I know that when I take test, I get vary nervous and I cant concentrate, but when I have the feeling of being prepared for the test, I notice that I am not so nervous when I come to take it. You should always find time to improve your test taking methods, personally I try to devote one whole hour the night before a big test so I can remember a lot the next day. In school you will have various test that some will be easy and some will be vary difficult, you should always be mentally prepared to take whatever test they give you.
Per the assessment results, there are three discrete principles that need to be addressed based on my personal, distinct habits. As I make a transition from high school to college, the weaknesses that need to be improved are interpreted as my note-taking, textbook and time management abilities. Primarily, note-taking is the worst mannerism found in my results. As a student, I always attempt to write down every single word in a presentation, or lecture. My note-taking habits need to be terminated because I am not enhancing my skills or learning any of the information, I am just regurgitating it. In high school, note-taking is not a big deal; however, in college note-taking is the consequent basis of learning. To amplify my skills in the area of note-taking, I need to be an active listener, so I can retain the information better and review it later. I should summarize the notes and analyze them on a daily basis.
The results of this study showed that that students scored significantly higher on both Exam I and III than they did on the pretests. Furthermore, on Exam I, students scored higher on the repeated questions seen on pretest I than the non-repeated questions.
Did you know that the first few minutes of class is the only time a student listens to their teacher? A student listens to a 60-90 minute lectures from classroom to classroom for 200 school days. But a student cannot focus their attention for that long so they ended up losing their attention somewhere else. Someday, this may be a trouble to their parents. Students lacking concentration may cause failure in planning for their future.
Imagine being in the library at the early hours before your final exam. You are thinking to yourself as you are studying why did I wait last minute to study all this material. Dose this sound familiar to you? Well if so you are not alone. Many college students find themselves having to cram for exams the night before. According to a poll taken by The Hawk Eye, 99 percentage of college kids have reported that they have found themselves in the situation where they need to cram for an exam (Gerwick). Studying last minute may work and allow you to pass the exam the next day, but it will not allow you to keep the information for very long. When you study as a last ditch effort all the information that you learn is stored in your short term memory
Stressing about an approaching deadline or an upcoming test is nothing new to most people, especially students. The manner in which both business professionals and students handle the stress is quite similar. The majority of people who often find themselves in this situation say that they stay up most of the night, if not all the night, preparing and reviewing information. As the standards for a quality education continue to increase rapidly, students find themselves having less and less time to prepare for approaching exam dates. The pressure to succeed and do well causes many high school and college students to study all the information intensively, or cram, the night before the exam while putting off sleep. Although this seems harmless, there are many severe effects to late night study sessions. Staying up late and reviewing information does more harm than good.
