As students of literature we are often asked to analyze works of the most loved and admired pieces of literary art. Content in literature often gives insight to the author and where the piece originated. As the wonderful world of literary materials come to life in the hands of its readers, we gain much insight from the authors who have guided us to expand our knowledge of literature and humanity. The powerful hand of capitalist authority and its overwhelming influences on human behavior shapes society. Since it has been established that all human manifestations of society are products of the culture from which it is created, we can understand literature as a reflection of its cultural time period and climate where authors become historians who bravely mark the world with their creations.
The book The Hunger Games is a science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins in 2008. The book is written through the eyes of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in the nation of Panem in North America. The Capitol exercises political control over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12–18 from each of the twelve districts around the Capitol are selected by random to compete in a televised battle to the death. Collin’s Hunger Games uses conflict and plot development by challenging character development through survival, humanity, and dignity.
Conflict rises from the beginning of the book when Katniss’s sister, Prim, gets her name gets drawn to participate in the annual hunger games. Katniss then yells “I volunteer!” as she gasps. “I volunteer as tribute!” (22). This marks the first sign of survival as she protects her sister and becomes the first volunteer from district twel...

...made, the killing takes lives from many. Friends Katniss and Rue team up to defeat others. Rue is killed and Katniss shows her respects to Rue by covering her in flowers. While many of the characters have these attributes, the capital does not and this shows as the book moves along. The capital has no humanity or dignity through out the book.
The book has many different conflicts that most of the characters are faced with. The plot development and the character development change through out the book. These things are very heavy used through the book. Conflicts come together with the plot development and character development as the story develops. Collins does a excellent job of piecing the book together. Katniss is defined as one of the most undergoing characters as she changes through out the book. How would your life be if you were put in Katniss’s shoes?
