Analysis Of Simply Managing By Henry Mintzberg

During the first and second week of class we learned Chapter 1 from our textbook “Management Fundamentals” by Robert Lussier. And during our fourth week of class we read from our second book that we have for the class which is “Simply Managing” by Henry Mintzberg. While reading both of these I have found things that were similar between the two and things that were also different. In this paper I am going to talk about the things that I have found. Mintzberg uses a variety of different ways to describe managing. He knows from his own experiences that managing anything can be somewhat of a crazy job and can also be quite overwhelming. Mintzberg gives his own life experiences in his book which makes it put things into perspective more for the reader so in my opinion it makes it better to learn from. In Lussier’s book he talks about management being a series of certain steps and how there is a way to be an effective manager. According to Lussier the four steps are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (Lussier, 2017). I do agree with these steps but going off of real life situations can help people out more because they learn what things are right and wrong to do in some of the situation that he uses. One difference that I saw is in the way that they describe managing. Mintzberg uses real life examples to explain certain things about managing. Lussier on the other hand describes managing as a series of steps. The similarities that I found between the two are that no job is more vital to us than that of a manager. And also, one in which is about distinguishing leaders from managers. So with all of this being said I am looking forward to learning more from both of these books throughout the
