Nosedive was focused on the relationship and personal presentation that society has begun portraying to others. The main character Lacie focused her entire being around upranking herself to a 4.5 on a scale of 5. By making small talk, complimenting, and being kind to everyone besides how you actually feel, it created a fake and molded society. When everyone's focused on their own image and what outside people think, it takes away from one's own morality and genuine interactions. Also it seemed to highlight in the show that the lower, closer to average ranks were happier, as well as less concerned with the impact of their outside views. With the increasing uses of technology, people have become addicted to not only social media, but their phones, laptops, and tablets. With the need to surf the web people have become withdrawn from social interactions and are more concerned about communicating within their net of connections than creating new relationships. With the new lack of relationship depth that's becoming more and more apparent, people are less interested in what is surrounding them. This can be seen in the episode of Black Mirror with the distance that Lacie and Naomi portray. The relationship also shows how, in order to gain popularity and ranking, the two use each other in friendship. This technological war is seen between the competition of companies in the industrial world. Different car companies, all competing to have the most fuel efficient and most technologically advanced models of cars. This competition can also be seen through Apple, involved in a war against themselves in order to update and release phones and laptops with the highest level of technology and updates. A final outer world example can be seen through something more drastic and violent, nuclear war. With the idea that nations are in a competitive war to create the strongest and best weapons with high technology in order to protect and boost their own rank of “world’s best”. This competition connects to the separation with the fact that while developing these new technologies the different companies and nations separate themselves from others in order to keep their developments
