The subject of the poem “Fork” by Charles Simic is about being hurt and broken. Simic uses the fork as a symbol of violence throughout the poem. The tone of the poem is very dark with feelings of pain, violence, and curiosity. Charles Simic conveys his belief that people do not know the true power of their violence and how easily they can hurt others. First of all, the structure of the last lines of the poem is very unique. “Its” and “fist” are what start and finish the line, and they both contain the same three letters. This compares the fork to a fist. In the next portion, the author uses “bald, beakless and blind” to describe a fist.
