To Kill A Mockingbird Essay Atticus Finch has many assertions that make him a good character but there is only a few that make him the best which are he is a good citizen, he is kind,and he is a wonderful father. First of all, Atticus is a good citizen because he stood up for Tom Robinson when tom was being accused of rape. He treated everyone even his children with respect he was gentle never aggressive he was calm he never had an angry issue. In the book page 284 it says that jem with his face angry with tears he walked down on the sidewalk where Atticus was sitting jem said “it ain’t right” he muttered “it ain’t right” then atticus says “No son it ain’t right” then
What Atticus did for Tom was a reason to be called a good person, not a hero. He protected Tom, even though it was not part of his job. Being a good person is different than being a hero. A hero requires someone to somehow help the community, while being a good person is just someone who helps out another person. Atticus fits more in the good person category.
The novel “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, is an American classic, narrated by the young Scout Finch, the most engrossing character in the book. The novel is about the adventures of two siblings over the time of about three years. Jem and Jean Louise (Scout) Finch were two young siblings who one day met another young boy named Dill. Over time, Jem and Scout grow up under the careful watch of their father and friends, learning how to be adults. They play games, they sneak into a courthouse, and they learn a valuable life lesson. Scout was an intriguing character. As the narrator, you learn more about Scout’s feelings towards the events in the book and soon learn to love her. Let me introduce you to Scout Finch.
I think that every time Atticus brings forward his heroic characteristics he contradicts them with his negatives: he is an intelligent man yet terribly lonesome; he does everything he could to win the case but somehow he still loses; he cares about his children tremendously however he is not there for them in their time of need. Atticus Finch was a true hero, in my eyes. He had all the essentials to being a hero, such as; respect, equality, and quiet dignity. Sure, Mr. Finch didn’t quite reach his goal of winning the Tom Robinson case, but it was the fact that he attempted it, knowing he would lose. A hero is not someone who achieves something, but is a person that attempts to. The journey to your goal might even be more important than the actual achievement, because on your way to the top, struggles appear and you overcome them by learning new lessons to live by in life. Atticus is a good father for teaching his children to respect everyone. Scout asks Atticus if he is a “nigger lover” and he simply replies, "I certainly am. I do my best to love everybody... I'm hard put, sometimes—baby, it's never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn't hurt you." This shows that atticus is not like the other people in Maycomb he considers every man to be equal to one another. Judge Taylor comes to Atticus to defend Tom Robinson because he knows he’s the only man in Maycomb that is fit to do to the job, and do it fairly. Consequently, Atticus Finch acts justly, loves tenderly and walks humbly through his job and his family. Ultimately, he acts justly through his acts of kindness and understanding. Also, he loves tenderly by showing the ones that he cares about their worth. Lastly, he walks humbly by not caring about other people’s opinions but himself. Atticus Finch is a man with full respect and love given to. He is a role model for his family and to all of his town people.
In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, there were many unique attributes each character held. But the main trait Atticus, Miss Maudie, and Jean held was an unshakable hope in humanity. After his trial ended on a low note, Atticus continued keeping his cool and never thought of losing hope in humanity, as Jeremy did. Atticus shows great compassion and tolerance when he stands up for the Negroes. He stands up and represents Tom Robinson because he believes that everyone should be treated equally in the court of law. He knows that because Tom was a Negro there would be a slim chance of winning. That fact never discouraged him though because he says that the main reason he is representing Tom is because, ' if I didn't I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature'; (75). When talking to his daughter, Scout, Atticus Finch says: “ ‘The only thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience’ ” (Lee 140). This quote signifies Atticus’s strong belief in morality and righteousness that is so apparent in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus Finch is an inspirational role model that exhibits the qualities of courage, respect, and selflessness. He charms the reader with his stunning wit and great emotional depth of character. He had many words that made one understand him on a deeper level than actions initially would, but one can not discredit his actions. “Well, Mr. Finch didn’t act that way to Mayella and old man Ewell when he cross examined them. During the story, To Kill A Mockingbird, there are many different instances that can largely differ from one another. However, it was once dubbed "a love story" by the author of the book, Harper Lee. In the terms of how Atticus Finch, one of the main characters of the story, it could, without a doubt, be categorized as a love story. We know this because of the excellent way he treats his children and makes sure that they will become extraordinary beings when they grow older.
Although he is a strong figure in the community, people now see Atticus as a disgrace. They believe he is bringing shame to his family, and call him a “nigger-lover”. His children, Scout and Jem, also suffer the repercussions due to their father’s actions. It is unfair for these young, innocent children to be put through such traumatic events. Atticus Finch is a good role model to his children, as well as to the community. He himself is also like a mockingbird.
