Have you ever wonder what the twisted mind that could make something like death seem fun, well Tim Burton does exactly that in Edward Scissorhand and Charlie and the chocolate factory. Tim Burton loves setting a dark, gloomy mood he also tends to use a lot reality vs. fantasy in Edward Scissorhands and in Charlie and the chocolate factory. The element Tim Burton uses in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Edward Scissorhands uses makes a very dark and eerie mood. Burton uses low key lighting and close-ups in Edward Scissorhands and in Charlie and chocolate factory to achieve a dark, gloomy, and eerie mood to show the emotion, thoughts, and feelings building up in the characters and to give you a suspense and suspension like mood in the scene.
Burton uses low key in Edward Scissorhands buy using Edward house as the only dark place which make it look odd from the town that is colorful. Tim Burton changes the lighting to gives you a different mood about the scene. As peg enters the house it creates a suspenseful feel where the viewer worries about peg. This makes a dark and eerie mood cause the viewer does not know what will happen next to Peg. Low key lighting was also used to shows Edward as an outsider or didn’t belong with the normal crowd.
Burton also uses low key lighting in Charlie and the chocolate factory to achieve as the Charlie’s house as an outsider. There is a lot darkness is the in the town. However it shows that Charlie’s house is up on hill away from the town. It shows nothing happens ever goes on and it is very dark place. The town shows a very depressing scene where the whole town is off on its own. It also shows the low key lighting in Charlie’s house to show that they are a poor family and not wealthy. In Ch...

Tim Burton in the films Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and in Edward Scissorhands uses low key lighting and close ups to achieve a dark, and eerie mood by creating a lot of tension between the characters. Tim Burton shows a lot of things such as creepy and scary which are achieved by the affects he uses which are many but for these he manly used low key lighting and close ups. If Tim Burton didn’t use these cinematic elements to show the audiences that what fantasy vs. reality really means or that death is a part of life and is not so scary cause it will happen to everyone the movies wouldn’t be as entertaining they are now. Tim Burton shows to us in a way that we all can laugh.
