Someone once said, “Relationships end, but the happy memories that were made are what last forever.” In the song “End Credits” by EDEN, the artist creates a story of a relationship, where he wishes for him and his partner to run away together, and to only focus on the present by making happy memories. However, EDEN later realizes that this wish is impossible, and could never happen. In “End Credits,” the artist creates a central message of how often in life, people decide to live in the moment and not worry about the past, however, this is truly just a fantasy as usually, consequences of one’s actions will catch up to them. EDEN also uses literary elements such as motifs, metaphors, and similes to enhance the theme of the song.

He believes that he can achieve happiness by living in the moment and running away from the things that make him unhappy, or in his words, “making a break for the other side.” This motif shows how one can not always be happy, like how the sun is not always shining. Usage of this motif enhances the theme of the song by implying that living in the moment and running away to be happy will work for a while, however, the consequences will eventually catch up to one, similarly to how the sun will eventually stop shining. On the contrary to sunshine, EDEN also uses the motif of darkness/night to enhance the central message. In the chorus, the lyric “We’ll keep running through the dark” is repeated multiple times. The lyric means that they’ll be acting on impulse, and not know what will happen in the future, just what is happening now. Since this lyric is repeated, it shows how their actions will also be repeated. By using this contrasting motif of darkness, the theme is enhanced as it shows how although there is one thing, there is always a contrast to it. In this case, the contrast to the …show more content…

One of the repeated similes is, “Live like shooting stars.” (lines 23, 50 and 75) Shooting stars are known for being a beautiful sight, however, they are also known not to last for a long time. With this simile, EDEN conveys that he wishes to live a beautiful and happy life, even though it may be short. By using this simile, it shows how living in the moment may be nice for a short period of time, however, it will eventually end, and no longer be beautiful. The central message is enhanced as when one lives in the moment, they act on impulse, which usually ends in a consequence. Another repeated simile is, “Live like the movies do.” (lines 13, 40 and 65) Often in movies, characters tend to act reckless and do not think about the consequences of their actions, and just do what makes them happy. Since EDEN uses this specific simile, he expresses that he wishes to live like movie characters. EDEN however realizes that it is just a wish he has, as lives of movie characters are unrealistic, and are a fantasy. Lastly, the artist uses the metaphor of, “forty-five millimeter rolling like we lost time” (line 28) to emphasize the central message of the song. Forty-five millimeter is a reference to a type of camera, and the simile of it “rolling like we lost time” means that the camera is capturing the happy times that were lost. By using this simile, it shows the
