In my opinion, Amadeus by Miloš Forman was a very interesting movie. In general, I felt the movie was well directed and had good actors that complimented the movie exceptionally well. The movie itself had an extraordinarily pretty setting, with beautiful architecture that was complimented by lush costumes. It was not much interesting content wise however the way that the film was structured impressed me. The story is being told from the point of view from a rival composer of the name Salieri. I also liked how because of this point of view, the movie was set up as being a story and collection of memories being reminisced by Salieri. I liked this addition of having a point of view because it makes his story a lot more interesting rather than …show more content…

Anyone, even someone without musical background, would think that Mozart, a composer whose work greatly shaped classical music, would be a acutely poised, proper, well-dressed individual. In the movie, however; he is portrayed to almost the opposite of that. He is introduced in the movie with a scene containing him and Constanze, his girlfriend, running around and messing about. Later on when we finally get some dialogue from Mozart we can we that he's very immature and silly. We also see that while he is immature for his age he is immensely confident and has no doubts about his talent or his intelligence. He has all the music in his head and is not self-conscious about ever sharing his work and does not hid his genius. When Mozart plays his first opera we see him almost showing off his talent, further adding to the fact that he was a cocky individual. Mozart is also shown as someone that doesn’t adhere to rules and the norms of society back then. He did not make the same music as everyone else, he did what he wanted and composed the music he wanted, which was great music. What is also curious is the how the other characters view Mozart, one would think that even though he was an immature boy, they would recognize his talent and respect him, but instead they all just thought he was some kind of one hit wonder or a child prodigy that was fading. All of the music used wasn’t just background music, it provided something to the story. As Salieri is examining one of Mozart’s pieces, he starts talking about the clarinet and we see him swaying and being entranced by the piece as the music itself is playing in the background and it creates a deep and impactful scene. When Salieri first meets Mozart’s officially, Mozart is playing one of Salieri’s pieces, however he’s improving it as he’s playing, making it go faster, adding scales etc. As soon as the music gets faster and more notes are added, we see Salieri getting increasingly angrier, which I though was very complimenting to the scene. This was not done just for one scene but throughout the movie, and it was truly well-done. Something else that caught my eye was how vengeful and jealous Salieri grew of Mozart. In the movie we constantly see Salieri being very upset with Mozart’s talent and I found it sort of ironic because Mozart was supposed to be the obviously immature one not Salieri. The extent to which Salieri becomes jealous and claims to have killed Mozart’s, shows that he obviously had a lack of confidence and was emotionally immature as he could not handle the simple fact of someone being better than him. I found it foolish the extent of how upset Salieri was, thinking that Mozart had a gift from God, and being particularly upset because he had prayed to God to be a good composer, and
