Most people are good at heart and would never do anything that could possibly hurt someone, but sometimes people can make mistakes and end up being cruel to somebody. Everyone has been in a situation where they profoundly regret what they did and wish they could reverse but can't. This situation is represented in the short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury and the song “Let me Go” by Hailee Steinfeld. Both of these texts use some similar craft techniques and some different ones to uncover the theme that if you hurt someone you may not think anything of it at the time, but later on you’ll regret it and won’t be able to reverse it. To begin with, one way that each piece of text suggests the theme is through revealing actions. First, in the song it says “and I wish you had hurt me harder than I hurt you.” She is revealing what she thinks and is describing how she hurt somebody badly …show more content…

For instance, in “All Summer in a Day”, many metaphors are used to reveal the theme, while in “Let Me Go” first person narration in used. An example of one of the many metaphors in the story is, “She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost.” These metaphors are used to describe Margot and how she is so frail that she looks like an old, dusty photograph and speaks like a ghost. These descriptors also give a little insight to us about Margot and how she was affected by the children malicious behaviour. However, In “Let Me Go”, it says, “Somebody's taking care of all of the mess I've made Someone you don't have to change.” In this quote the artist is using first person narration to express her feelings that she regrets what she did to a certain person. In the final analysis, both texts are visibly different because the short story uses metaphors to display the theme while the song uses first person point of view
