Alexander Hamilton was a founding father that is often forgotten in American history. All the glory goes to men like George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and others of that sort. Alexander Hamilton was one of the most influential individuals in the formation of the United States economy, and one of the greatest intellectuals, politicians and founding fathers in history. Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755 in the British West Indies. He was the product of an affair and was born to his mother Rachel Fawcett Lavine and a man named James whom was a Scottish trader. Knowing that he came from a troubled and awkward family background, Hamilton tried to prove his worth by beginning work at the young age of 11. He was the apprentice of an accountant named Nicolas Cruger. He was such a bright and impressive individual that Cruger and his business partner pooled together their money to send Hamilton to America to receive a higher level of education. Hamilton attended King's College (now Columbia University) in New York at the young age of 16. During this time however, Hamilton was more intrigued by the idea of an American revolution than with schoolwork. He quickly became involved with politics and supported the Patriots right to govern themselves and be an independent entity. Before he graduated, Hamilton dropped out of college to join the war effort in favor of the Americans. Hamilton was a member of the New York Provincial Artillery Company. He fought in the battles of Trenton, Long Island, and White Plains. His dedication to the cause of liberty paid helped him become Lieutenant Colonel of the Continental Army in 1777. General and Commander George Washington took an interest in Hamilton and made him his personal ass... ... middle of paper ... ...not wish to harm Burr, however, Burr fired a bullet directly through Hamilton's chest and fatally wounding him. He died in New York City on July 12, 1804. Hamilton died standing up for what he thought was right rather than sit back and watch which is the meaning of his famous quote, "Those who stand for nothing fall for anything." (BrainyQuote). Although Hamilton had died, his legacy had continued on for years after his death. The National Bank remained and aided the country in escaping debt and economic failure. New England was also a prosperous and industrious region just as Hamilton had envisioned all of America. His beloved Federalist Party would not wither away until 1815 at the Hartford Convention where they would eventually turn into the GOP. He was a prominent figure in our country's history and should never be forgotten by our country's future generations.
