Recommended: How alexander graham bell impacted the world essay

In March 3, of 1847 the great inventor Alexander Graham Bell was born. His father was Professor Alexander Melville Bell, and his mother was Eliza Grace. Alexander Bell had two brothers, Edward Charles Bell and Melville James Bell. When Alexander was ten he begged his father to give him a middle name like his brothers. For his eleventh birthday Alexander’s gave him the middle name Graham, after their family friend Alexander Graham. Both of his brothers died of tuberculosis. As a child, young Alexander was very curious about the world around him.
His best friend was Ben Herdman. His family operated a flour mill, which would become the focus of his first invention. One day Bell asked Ben what needed to be done at the mill. He was told wheat had to be dehusked through a laborious process. When Alexander was 12, he created a homemade device that used rotating paddles and sets of nail brushes, creating a simple machine for the use of dehusking the wheat. It was put into operation and used steadily for a number of years. As a reward for this machine Alexander and Ben were allowed to use a small workshop in which to invent.
At a young age Graham learned how to play the piano and he became the family pianist. Bell also enjoyed doing voice tricks and ventriloquism, keeping the Bell’s guests entertained whenever they were present. His mother had progressive deafness, deeply affecting Alexander. He learned a finger language so he could sit by her side and tap out the conversations quietly, so that she could still participate in the family conversations. Bell's preoccupation with his mother's deafness led him to study acoustics.

... people in the U.S. owned telephones. In 1879, the Bell Company acquired Edison's patents for the carbon microphone from Western Union. This made the telephone practical for longer distances and it was no longer necessary to shout to be heard at the receiving telephone. Bell is also credited with the invention of the metal detector in 1881. The device was quickly put together in an attempt to find the bullet in the body of U.S. President James Garfield. In 1922 Bell died of complications from his diabetes, he was also afflicted by pernicious anemia. Alexander Graham Bell was an amazing person and he changed the world for ever.
