Al Capone Legacy
Al “Scarface” Capone was a successful entrepreneur who saw an opportunity and pounced on it. Capone made his fortune through both legal and illegal business practices. WIth these strategies they live on and we see them today still and with them many laws and reforms had been created because of Capone.
Capone had a very challenging and different childhood with eight siblings, he was born January 17th, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York. He had struggled in school, not because of the work as he was a fairly good student but he saw rules as something to break and not something to follow. At the age of 14 Capone left school after striking a teacher in the face. He worked odd jobs around the city until he met his mentor Johnny Torrio and …show more content…

He showed that as the law creates illegal substances it creates a thriving underground and the U.S. government wanted to put a stop to it. One way he showed the truly gruesome nature of the people in this industry was the Valentine’s Day Massacre in which seven men of opposing gang were gunned down. These murders are assumed and mostly credited to Al Capone, but no charges were filed. He had many resources that he need as organized crime was in full swing giving him the man power he certainly needed. Also the politicians and people in power in this time had no problem making a little extra cash from the “unconventional businesses” developing, this had also given capone a lot of control in chicago’s police force, government, and even the people in some cases.
Al Capone’s reign of terror or someone who brought enlightenment? Many people will overlook this question as he is seen as menace to society, but this menace to society was responsible for the fall of an U.S. Constitutional Amendment. He in a way had more legislative power than most officials. This was all a far away from his plan and this was an accidental outcome, but an outcome nonetheless. His legacy as such a menace is tarnished, but to see the good with the bad is a skill needed when talking about Al “Scarface” Capone.
In conclusion, we have talked about Capone’s upbringing and his rise to infamy had been caused by prohibition and led to him being a crucial part in the black market developing in America. The actions he had took had caused pain and loss, but had also brought relief and showed what legislation can and cannot do or force the american people to
