Al Capone Al Capone is a notorious outlaw there aren’t many people that don’t know about him. He is famous for when his “business” took off. It all started before the prohibition but that is what really kick started it. The smuggling of alcohol was one of the biggest things that they could do. Alphonse Capone, was born January 17, 1899, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.—died January 25, 1947, in Palm Island, Florida the most famous American gangster, who was at the top of organized crime in Chicago from 1925 to 1931. capone’s parents immigrated to the United States from Naples in 1893. Al, is the fourth of nine kids, dropped out of school in Brooklyn after the sixth grade and joined Johnny Torrio’s James Street Boys gang, rising eventually to the Five Points Gang. In a youthful scrape in a brothel-saloon, a young hoodlum slashed Capone with a knife or razor across his left cheek, prompting the later nickname “Scarface.” Al Capone made it to the very top of the underground alcohol business during the 1920's. He made it known to the public and even law enforcement that he could not be toyed with. He successfully controlled a good portion of all the alcohol business and the police. Valentine's Day Massacre. On February 14, 1929, four of Capone’s gang men entered a garage on Clark Street. The building was the main liquor depot of bootlegger George Moran “North Side gang”. Because two of Capone's men were dressed as police, the seven men in the garage thought it was a police raid. As a result, they dropped their guns and put their hands against the wall. Using two shotguns and two machine guns, the Capone men fired more than 150 bullets into the men. Six of the seven killed were members of Moran's gang; the seventh was a friend.
