Alphonse Capone was also known as “Scarface” was born January 17th, 1899. He was one of the most famous gangsters of all time. During the 20s his net worth was $100 million dollars which in today's world would be 1.3 billion dollars. He rose to infamy as the leader of the Chicago Outfit during the Prohibition era. (A&E, Al Capone Biography, The Biography.com Website.) Capone was born in Brooklyn, New York, his parents immigrated there from Italy. At the time his parents were very poor Capone and his family were living in poverty. During the 1920s prohibition came into place outlawing the sale and consumption of alcohol. This is how it became that Al Capone would become the most infamous gangsters in American history. Capone’s mother worked as a seamstress and his father worked as a barber. When Al was in the sixth grade, he was expelled from school for assaulting a teacher. He began small crime jobs to try an support himself. Capone was soon noticed by a gangster, Johnny Torrio. In 1920, Torrio took Capone, and made him a part of the infamous ‘Chicago Outfit’. The gang was into businesses such as prostitution, drug trafficking, and many other illegal activities. Capone spent the last years of his life at his mansion in Palm Island, Florida. On January 21, 1947, Capone had a stroke. He started to eventually come around and started to improve, but contracted pneumonia. He suffered a cardiac arrest on January 22. On January 25, Capone died in his home, but he was with his family at the time so he would go out surrounded by the people he loved. He wаs originally buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chicago.
