Alphonse Capone was also known as “Scarface” was born January 17th, 1899. He was one of the most famous gangsters of all time. During the 20s his net worth was $100 million dollars which in today's world would be 1.3 billion dollars. He rose to infamy as the leader of the Chicago Outfit during the Prohibition era. At the time his parents were very poor Capone and his family were living in poverty. During the 1920s prohibition came into place outlawing the sale and consumption of alcohol. This is how it became that Al Capone would become the most infamous gangsters in American history. Capone’s mother worked as a seamstress and his father worked as a barber. When Al was in the sixth grade, he was expelled from school for assaulting a teacher. He began small crime jobs to try an support himself. Capone was soon noticed by a gangster, Johnny Torrio. In 1920, Torrio took Capone, and made him a part of the infamous ‘Chicago Outfit’. The gang was into businesses such as prostitution, drug trafficking, and many other illegal activities. Capone spent the last years of his life at his mansion in Palm Island, Florida. On January 21, 1947, Capone had a stroke. He started to eventually come around and started to improve, but contracted pneumonia. He suffered a cardiac arrest on January 22. On January 25, Capone died in his home, but he was with his family at the time so he would go out surrounded by the people he loved. He wаs originally buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chicago. He taught himself at a young age that the main purpose of life was to acquire power and wealth. Al began to participate in criminal activities as a way of achieving success in what he saw as an unjust society. Johnny Torrio, a ganster that gave Al a job in a gang and knew Al did not mind violence and often had him beat up people who were unable to repay loans. Valentine’s Day and the small-thug are just two examples of the raw decisions of Capone to commit murder. There is no possible answer to the amount of killings Capone is responsible for. Al Capone was finally caught after all the chaos and killing in 1931 where he would serve in Alcatraz and in Baltimore until returning to Miami where he would dance with the devil one last time. In August 1939 Capone was moved from Atlanta to Alcatraz in San Francisco. Capone’s health took a turn for the worst when he caught Tetiary Syphilis and became disoriented and confused. He was released after six and a half years on god behavior where he returned to Palm Island estate. His wife Mae took care of him until the end. Capone died on January 25, 1947 when he suffered from a cardiac arrest. He was 48 when he died.

Al Capone was a notorious gangster in Chicago during the years of Prohibition. He came to power when his partner and mentor, Johnny Torrio, fled Chicago for Italy fearing death threats. Torrio left Capone in charge to run a massive bootlegging, prostitution, gambling, and extortion business that made about $100,000,000 annually. Since these activities that Capone conducted were extremely illegal, Capone managed to bribe or blackmail officials to keep himself and his men out of jail. The government had a very difficult time trying to capture Capone because of his power, celebrity status, and money. After years of trying to catch Capone and send him to jail, the government finally succeeded. Instead of arresting Capone on accounts of murder, bootlegging, gambling, prostitution, extortion, etc. the government arrested him due to tax evasion. Despite its efforts, the United States Government did not do enough to stop Al Capone from terrorizing the city of Chicago during Prohibition.
Capone lived in Alcatraz for 11 years and when he got out he fell ill with Neurosyphilis and died from his disease on january 25 1947.
He was never convicted for any of the hundreds of crimes he committed; this is one of the most important facts that showed how many connections Capone had. It was until the 1930’s when Capone was convicted of tax invasion when he served his first jail sentence. He was transferred through many jails across America until he finally landed in Alcatraz. While serving his jail time, Alphonse Capone became a victim of the deadly disease, Syphilis. Al Capone died, but his crime legacy will always live on.
