Camping Essentials: What to Bring When You Go Camping

Have you ever noticed that being in the great outdoors increases your appetite? Maybe it's the extra exercise from the hiking, maybe it's breathing in fresh air, it might even be the smell of food cooking over an open fire – whatever the reason, I think we can all agree that there's nothing quite like camping for a relaxing getaway. If you're shaking your head in disagreement then there's a good chance you feel that way because you're forgetting the essentials when packing your gear to head to the site.

So, let's take a look at the essentials and what you should always be taking when heading out to camp.

1. First Aid Kit

Keep it in the handiest pack you've got and make sure you have easy access to it in the packed vehicle.

4. Directions
Okay, yes, your phone has maps and it even has a compass, but what happens if your phone dies or you lose signal? You get lost. So, take extra precautions and pack a compass and maps for the areas you will be visiting. Before you leave on your trip make sure you know how to read a map and use a compass... it will help.

5. Weather Wear
British weather is notoriously unpredictable, so it's important to pack clothing for every eventuality. That means packing wellies and rain wear even if the outlook is sun. You should pack layers as it's easier to stay warm by layering up, and don't forget gloves and extra socks. The latter is particularly important because if your feet get wet you'll want to avoid trench foot by having extra supplies.

6. Fire
Lighters are a fantastic invention, but you should have matches with you, too. Matches are wonderful, but they can get wet which is why a lighter is important. The point is that you shouldn't choose one or the other, you should be safe and smart and take enough of each, just in case.
