Have you ever known anybody that has had struggled with a mental illness? Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. People all over the world are fighting with some kind of mental disorder. I have struggled with a few myself. I know how hard it can be to overcome these disorders, and that’s why I want to be a psychiatrist. I want to help a lot of people rise above their illnesses. Psychiatrists study how the mind works. They help their clients find the root of their problem they are having and then help the client fix it, or at least make it less of a problem. Psychologists and psychiatrists are kind of the same thing except psychiatrists prescribe medicine and psychologists don’t (Shmoop). Psychiatrists salaries vary depending on where they are located. Obviously the salary would not be as much in Durant, because Durant’s population is not very high. I am going to move to Seattle, Washington and work there. Seattle is a big city and I will have more patients there because the population in Seattle is pretty high. In Washington the salary for psychiatrist is about $120,000 to $190,000 a year (Career One Stop).When I first start the job I will not be making that much, but after a few months or so and I start getting more clients, my pay will go up. There are some advancement opportunities in psychiatry. More training in psychology will cause some advancement. Psychiatrists can also take in more clients. People are the only main limiting factor in this field. “Employment of psychiatric technicians is projected to grow 4 percent from 2012 to 2022, slower than the average for all occupations” (Bureau).
