Advantages And Disadvantages Of International Tourism Essay

Recently, many countries have come to on international tourism to increase their income. International tourism is the activity of people travelling or visiting destinations outside their own country. International tourism may have impacts on a country. However, international tourism may also have disadvantage on a country. Therefore, international tourism has many advantages and disadvantages in any country. This essay will examine the effects of international tourism on Oman. This essay is divided into five sections. Firstly, it will give a brief background Oman and its tourist. Next, it will consider the economy and social advantages. It will then go on to the economic and environmental disadvantages. The third section will take a part on the future possibilities. Finally, some conclusion will be drawn about the international tourism.

Oman has a very strategic location in the middle-east. It is located between three seas (the Arabian Gulf, The sea of Oman and the Arabian sea). Muscat is the capital of Oman, it is the biggest city of the country. Sohar, Salalah and Nizwa are the other major cities of the country. Moreover, Oman location has attracted many tourists from around the world. In 2010, 104800 tourist has arrived to Oman (According to the world bank). There are many places to visit in Oman. For example, the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Muttrah Souq, Diving and the deserts.

Oman’s infrastructure has a poor reputation by the international tourists. Therefore, Oman’s government is planning to develop its infrastructure to raise the tourism sector by 5% each year. ..., Oman government witnessed a 5% growth in the tourism sector. It is also projected that there is a 5.2% to 10.5% growth in this sector by the year of 2022. In addition, the foreign exchange earnings are also another critical factor that should be considered due to the disparity in currencies, any tourist paying a visit to this must convert to the local available currency. Therefore, this means it increases the local currency.

In addition, Employment level improvement and the advancement of Oman’s tourism sector increase the majority of people being employed. Growth in this sector means that more workers will be needed to provide somewhere to stay cause of the rising number of tourists. This also helps to increase the number of the level of unemployment within the economy. Also, living standards are greatly improved due to the addition of revenue into the economy.
