Strategies used at ABS Corporation
The R&D department has an important role in a product’s life cycle. This department enables an organization to participate in the following options: new product research and development, redesigning existing products, quality checks and finally innovation, which is the most expensive R&D investments. Prior to developing a new product, organization often put together a research group in charge of conducting a thorough research on the proposed product. The research group is responsible for providing information on the production costs, timeframe as well as product specifications that may attract the market. Due to the constant decline of ABS Corporation’s performance, a decision was made to use 2 TQM strategies in Round 4. The first initiative was the Global Environment Management initiative, put in place the help reduce the material costs as well as labor cost. The reduction of the mentioned cost will enable production costs to drastically reduce and thus positively impacting the sales price. The second initiative put in place was the CCE/6 Sigma Training. Training is important not only to the development of employees for the accuracy and effectiveness of the work being done. It is important for employees to be trained on the tasks and machines being used in order to be efficient. The organization must take into consideration the following areas: bureaucracy, communication and product quality as well as culture. Unlike other countries, the American government strict rules and regulations around the safety of the products being produced, that must be followed by the industry. Depending on the country, profits are move valued than the quality of the product. Another aspect to consider is culture. Some countries do not allow board members or even employees to be part of the decision making. For example in China, the leader is the sole decision maker and executor (Yaraman, 2009). As result, decisions are not challenged by employees or other members of the management
