A Young Person's Guide to Work Experience Work experience is an exiting time in the school year. It is great fun when you are there but before it can be a mix between excitement and being very nervous. Not knowing what to expect here is some helpful information to help you prepare for your work experience. When looking for your work experience placement, don't look for something that doesn't interest you at all. Attempt to and find something that you enjoy or a job that you may wish to do in the future. You should try your hardest to get a self-found placement to ensure you get a job that you are at least interested in. To get a self-found placement, look up all the companies that you feel you may be interested in and phone them until you find an organisation that say they will accept you for work experience and one that sounds suitable for you. Also if you find yourself a placement it shows both the school and your employer that you can be a responsible and independent person and leaves a good first impression. The worst thing in which you could do would be to leave the organisation of your placement to the last minute. You will then be left with the jobs that no one else wanted and be forced to take one which could therefore lead to be one of the most boring and uninteresting week of your life. If you have contacted an employer about a placement and they have said they will get back to you always make sure you have a back-up placement just in the chance they don't get back to you and you are then left with no placement when it comes to the week of work experience. To prepare for your work experience once you have a placement is very simple. All you have to do is make sure the school has given you the information on the clothing to wear, what hours you have to work and where to get your lunch.
