“It’s while writing that suddenly a point of view appears. So, thats what I really thought about this thing. Then it feels part of me”- Amelie Nothomb. Point of view is the position from which something is being told or observed. There are several types of point of views, such as omniscient, limited omniscient, first-person and dramatic. In this essay different point of views will be presented by discussing the strengths and limitations from the novels the curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, and snow falling on cedars by David Guterson.

First lets begin with the curious incident of the dog in the night-time. This novel has a first-person point of view. One of the strengths of this novel is being able to experience the world through Christopher’s compelling mind, and to have a better understanding of what it is like for people like him.(“He was asking too many questions and he was asking them quickly. The strength of this novel is that you get to see the life of two Afghan women, who don’t like each other at first but later on find strength in one another.They share they same abusive husband that doesn’t show them love or sympathy. To survive their hardships they search for love, not necessarily romantically but in family and friendships. They find the power in one another to endure the cruelty brought forth by Rasheed, and finally gain their much needed freedom. Which is truly uplifting, ands shows you must lift each other up to survive tough times. ( “ Everybody wants Jack,” Laila said to Mariam. “That’s what it is. Everybody wants Jack to rescue them from a disaster. But there is no Jack. Jack is not coming back. Jack is dead.”
