I observed that the simple gesture of coming to spend a day with these people gave them a lot of excitement and happiness. In fact, most of them were beaming with delight at the thought that a person who is not related to them can spare time to come and see them. I was particularly fascinated by one lady who had her own special chair that she had decorated a lot with beads. I approached her and she gave me her story of how she was brought to the facility. She explained that her family brought her there because they could not juggle between raising their children, attending work and visiting her on weekdays as is the case with most people living in such shelters (Stephens et al, …show more content…
