Reagan once said, “Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” What a true statement this is! Is there any doubt as to why Ronald Reagan was chosen for this assignment? He is considered one of the greatest leaders of all time. A very well-seasoned individual, his talents were all over the board, ranging from an actor to a U.S. President.
Ronald Reagan was born to John Reagan and Nellie Reagan on February 6, 1911. He was born in Tampico, Illinois; however, most of his childhood was spent in several different towns until his father decided to settle in Dixon, Illinois in 1920 to open a shoe store. Reagan was rather active in high school. He participated in the school plays; he was student body president, and also an athlete. In 1928, he graduated from Dixon High and went on to attend Eureka College on an athletic scholarship. In college, he played numerous sports, served as student council president, and performed in school productions. Reagan graduated from Eureka in 1932, where he majored in economics and sociology. After graduation, he found work as a radio sports announcer.
Later on in 1937, he participated in a screen test and it won him a seven-year contract with Warner Brothers studio. He appeared in more than fifty films including Kings Row and Knute Rockne, All American. In 1940, Reagan married actress Jane Wyman. They had a daughter, Maureen, and adopted a son, Michael. Eight years later, they divorced. From 1947 to 1952, he served as the president of the Screen Actors Guild. It was during this time that he met actress Nancy Davis. ...n Los Angeles. In 1994, he revealed a letter to the American people that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. At the age of 93, almost a decade later, he passed away. He was buried on the grounds of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California.
Ronald Reagan was an interesting man, and loved by many Americans. The Reagan years saw a restoration of prosperity and hope. He contributed so much to America’s economic history. The Regan Revolution, as it is known, aimed to re-invigorate the American people and reduce their reliance upon the government. Honestly, I believe this is his greatest contribution. It is exactly what the American people needed at the time. There was a demand and he created the supply. The tax cuts that he implemented were there to help stimulate the economy and that is exactly what they did for seven years.
