Enough Is Enough; the TV Can Wait

Since the turn of the new millennium children have corrupted their minds with watching too much television, playing game consoles, and surfing the internet on computers. We have to literally pry our children away from these gadgets daily. These items have won the battle over the things that are most important to them like reading, studying, and outdoor playing time.

September of 2011 the “Issues & Controversies” had an editorial cartoon titled Children’s Television: Too Much TV illustrated by Mat Handelsman. Handelsman visually expresses his opinion on how television is taking up too much of our youths’ minds and leaving the parents clueless. The illustrated editorial cartoon tells the parental viewers that parent have to get back to the basics. Parents need to keep children from watching television networks like VH1, HBO, and MTV just to name a few to a minimum. Likewise in the September 2011 issue of Good Housekeeping magazine Lauren Picker published her “Turn It Off! Are Your Kids Spending Too Much time Watching TV or Playing Computer Games? How to Set Realistic Limits That Work” article that gave different views on how to solve those issues. Picker also geared her opinions toward the parents of the world about how these computerized gadgets have taken control of our youth and have caused some issues to their health. Parents of the world need to make better decisions on how much television time their children are allowed, what they should and shouldn’t watch, and video game selections.

Parents need to make better decisions with their children’s time, rather than letting them waste it away with too much television. Parents should be more selective when choosing games and television programs for their children. Choosing more educational game and programs will help enhance the ability of children to learn more. Expressing to a child enough is enough; the television can wait is a great jump start to help change the next generation.
