The curious incident of the dog in the night time is about a young boy with asperger's syndrome named Christopher. asperger syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder considered to be on the “high functioning” end of the spectrum. Affected children and adults have difficulty with social interactions and exhibit a restricted range of interests repetitive behaviours. Christopher found a dead black poodle with a pitch fork in it. It made him very upset and he wanted to find out who killed Wellington, so he did some investigating so he could get the killer arrested but in a plot twist Christopher found out it was his father who killed Wellington. Christopher was very scared and angry with his father because he killed Wellington and lied about his mother dying of a heart attack when really she left Christopher and Ed for another man and moved to London. Christopher didn't like lier's. Christopher packed his bags and ran away from his father while he was at work and decided to go live with his mother. Christopher found the letters she had been writing him and the address was on the letters. I personally think that Christopher should forgive his father even though he lied to him about something very important and killed Wellington. I think this because Ed is very patient and understanding father toward Christopher and regardless of what happened he still was a very good father to Christopher. Also Judy, Christopher mother had left Christopher for anther man and because she couldn't handle Christopher and didn't know how to be a mother to him. I think that Christopher is better off with Ed because Judy's boyfriend, Roger didn't even want Christopher living with them and was very mean to Christopher. Christopher was also scared of Roger ... ... middle of paper ... ...even though he was scared of his father at the time, father wanted him and loved him and Chris would eventually forgive him but i think that Roger would continue to be mean to Chris. At the end of the day i think that every little boy needs to be raised by his father and that Chris should forgive him and give him another chance because Ed really dose love Chris and is trying hard to get Chris to forgive him. Ed killed the dog out of pain, jealously and anger because that was Rogers dog and Judy left Ed for Roger we all do stupid things when were heartbroken and angry. And regardless of what Ed did his mother still left him behind without saying goodbye and told him herself in the letter that maybe if he was different she could be a better mom to him so hes better off with his father who would never leave him and wants to fight for Chris to come home to him.
The characters Ed and Emily are both disturbed people who cannot bear to lose the person they love. In conclusion to losing their loved ones they decide upon murder, although Ed does not kill his ex Terri he does threaten to do so. Emily murders her lover to keep him from ever leaving her side. Ed threatens to kill his ex in order to scare her into staying, but when that does not work he kills himself, not being able to live without her. Both characters show signs of possibly having mental illness or just simply being unstable. One example of this is in “A Rose For Emily”, in paragraphs 26-28 it talk about how Emily would not let the town’s people bury her father. It says, “She told them that her father was not dead” (406). Emily was clearly not capable of dealing with the death of her father, she did not want to let him go. Another example of how the characters display being unstable is in, “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love”. In this short story is says, “Terri said the man she lived with before Mel loved her so much he tried to kill her. Then Terri said, ‘He beat me up one night. He dragged me around the living room by my ankles. He kept saying, ‘I love you, I love you, you bitch’” (411) The characters from both of the short stories showed signs of how they were incapable of dealing with
Chris's next encounter with Ewan is after the events of the fire at Peesie's Knapp. He kisses her but she doesn't realise it is him at the time. The kiss is described as being "dark, frightening and terrible in the winter road". Chris response is described as "kicked the man that held her...kicked him hard with her knee and then brought her nails down across his face...she kicked him again" During the night, she realises that she liked the kiss and her sexuality is awakened. Later on, Ewan visits her home looking for her
Ed Boone is often showing his emotions. For example, Blowing up in anger and lacking in confidence to work through problems. A quote that shows this is "It was so complicated. So difficult. And I... I said she was in hospital. And I know it wasn't true. But once I'd said that... I couldn't... I couldn't change it. Do you understand... Christopher...? Christopher...?" However, Judy Boone turns out to be strong willed and an independent person but she has some doubts about her ability in taking care of her child and her limitations. A quote that shows this is “Mother spoke very slowly and she said, "We are going back to Swindon because if we stay in London any longer. . . someone was going to get hurt. And I don't necessarily mean you." this shows that she can take care of her own situations and dealing with Christopher with her own
I could not come to a conclusion on the significance of the title until a later in the book. I discovered that it comes from the protagonist, Christopher Christopher John Francis Boone, who learns that his neighbor’s Poodle has been stabbed with a garden knife, which motivates Christopher to analyze the situation and find out who killed the dog and why. This helps him discover a greater secret about his parents. The dog symbolizes his care for things that people mindlessly overlook or forget. Yes, people did find it sad that the dog died, but they did not care enough to finding the killer. Christopher symbolizes the things that society ignores and overlooks. He is unusually curious about the murder of the Poodle. In addition, Christopher is very specific in everything he writes. Especially when it involves math or science, and struggles with expressing his (and other’s) feelings thanks to his mental disorders. The title, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, is specific, but it is not thought provoking or deep. It is rather
This leaves Mel feeling confused and helpless. His feelings of animosity and venomous hatred for his ex-wife are in direct conflict with his original self- evaluation of both being capable of understanding, and engaging in that enigma known as true love. Mel is, in many cases, the Ed of his ex-wife. Whereas Ed engaged in the violent act of dragging Terri throughout the apartment by her ankles, Mel describes, with almost childlike delight, how he has fantasized about playing the starring role in her murder.
When Chris left for his journey he wasn’t crazy or stupid as many would say. “McCandless went into the wilderness not primarily to ponder nature or the world at large, but rather to explore the inner country of his own soul” pg. 183. The fact that Chris never bother to discuss his Alaskan walk about with his anyone especially his parents wasn’t intentional. However throughout the whole book it was made very clear that he was at odds with his parents in some way to go off on his journey but he didn’t want to hurt them, which I think Walt and Billie finally realized visiting the bus where Chris had passed. I think Chris just wanted to get away from his everyday life, clear his mind, a mind that didn’t involve the worries of expectations and the thoughts of his parents hanging on his shoulders.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is told through the eyes of a fifteen year old boy named Christopher Boone. Christopher has a highly-functioning form of autism which allows him to understand complex mathematical problems, but also leaves him unable to comprehend many simple human emotions. His inability to understand metaphors, distinguish emotions, and his lack of imagination makes it possible to consider Christopher as functioning like a computer rather than functioning as a human being. Throughout the story, Christopher is faced with many challenges which he conquers using the stable and never changing system of mathematics. All of these factors suggest that Christopher does, in fact, function like a computer, but it is apparent early in the story that Christopher, regardless of anything else, is capable of independent thought which separates him from the programmed, dependent world of computers.
Terri considers that what Ed felt for her was love. And then Terri continues with her story. He stalks Mel and Terri, at that time Mel was divorcing his ex wife and living together with Terri. It’s a really complicated situation. Ed gains knowledge of the truth and kills himself with rat poison, but it doesn’t work well at first, finally he kills himself by shooting himself in his mouth.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time chronicles of Christopher Boone of Swindon, England. The book is written by Mark Haddon, who formerly worked with autistic individuals, describes the world through the eyes of Christopher, who is self-proclaimed “special needs”. The novel never explicitly says what Christopher’s diagnosis is, but from the text it is apparent that he would fall on the higher functioning end of the Autism Spectrum.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time exhibits real life situations experienced by an autistic, 15-year-old boy, from his own panorama. Christopher’s use of first person perspective ensures that his view on events are explained with accurate, detailed description, enhancing the responders understanding of how the mind of one with Asperger’s syndrome functions. This concept is elaborated on in Christopher’s struggle to become independent as the responder is able to grasp Christopher’s defensive mechanisms to dealing with stressful situations. Christopher narration “so I groaned to make the time pass quicker and not think” during a fit where his tendency to shut down and curl himself into a ball is essentially revealed substantiates his struggle to become independent as his
Ed gave a Christopher a puppy, Ed gave him the puppy for many reasons, some to ask for forgiveness, some to make up for past mistakes, and just to make Christopher happy which worked. Ed Boone was a good parent aside from a few lie about his mother, and killing Wellingtons dog after he has been seeing Ms.Shears for a bit and Ed getting upset that she loved her dog a bit more than Ed and that she did not want to get serious with Ed. Yes he should have not killed someone else's dog when you are upset but that made Christopher curious ad he tried to figure out who that killer was (he only later finds out that his father was the killer of Wellington) which mad his father upset because he did not want Christopher to find out that he killed the dog and did not want him to be scared or frightened of his own father so the dog was a bit of an apology. The puppy also could be a reward for Christopher passing his big math exam which he was practicing and working on it for such a long time. The last thing that the puppy was for and what is was a symbol of is a fresh start, Christopher solved his mystery of the killing of Wellington, him passing his math exam, and finding out that his mother is alive and can be apart of his life again, and he has someone to keep him company. The puppy symbolizes all of that and was received by Ed, meaning his father wants a fresh start or a beginning of
He felt different about this and knew something was different about this meeting. He knew that other people knew that he was getting hurt by his mother, but it was so hard for him to tell on his mother. It was hard for him because he knew that his mother was ill in ways that she could not control, and that even though she was hurtful she really did not mean to hurt him in the ways that she did. The cop drove Dave to the police department and he was very nervous telling the cop to please not call his mother and tell her that everyone knows how she’s been treating Dave for so long. Terrified he waited the cop dial his mother’s phone number and he told his mother Dave will be in the possession of another home, and people he will not be coming home.
In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, Judy has a difficult time raising Christopher. Judy gets overwhelmed and angry when Christopher acts out. Instead of learning how to deal with Christopher’s autism, she lashes out at him and throws food. Although Christopher is unable to express emotion, it is clear that his mother’s rage frightens him when he screams or throws a tantrum. By leaving Christopher, Judy shows that she is unequipped with the necessities to raise a child with autism.
The curious incident of the dog in the night time was narrated in first person by Christopher Boone however If it was narrated in third person the audience would not have understood the way Christopher was feeling. Communication, Social Interactions, Relationship’s and Christopher’s Autism spectrum disorder were some of the main areas expressed in the novel.
