When looking at jazz throughout all of its years, there is always one name that comes to mind; Louis Armstrong. For every jazz musician that came after him, Louis Armstrong can be considered a influence. No matter what instrument a person played or even how long they played that instrument for Louis Armstrong has influenced them on one way or another. "Louis Armstrong’s trumpet speaks to the possibilities available to the individual in a democracy." This quote, though untrue, still has a way of saying that Louis Armstrong was an influential artist. This influence on artists helped shape what jazz is today. Clark Terry was one of the artists who in one way or another was influenced by the great Louis Armstrong. With this influence, Clark Terry picked up a trumpet and learned to play. This would begin a lifetime of jazz music and just music in general that would change Clark Terry and the world around him forever. When it comes to the Jazz world Clark Terry would influence a lot of musicians himself which is one way he changed the world of music and the world in general. Clark Terry was also a leader in music education. The way he could teach is another way his influenced musicians and the world alike. Clark Terry also made a big stand in the equal rights of African Americans as well. On top of all of this, Clark Terry was just an influential artist who’s musical genius could speak for itself. To start off one must look back at the beginning of Clark Terry’s life to see where this all began. Clark was born in St. Louis Missurri. It is said that he made his first trumpet out of a garden hose and he played in local clubs in Vashon High School before joining the navy band during World War 2. Another source said that his first instrument was a trumpet he bought for twelve dollars and fifty cents, but either way it was a good thing he got that first trumpet. After this, Clark Terry is known for joining bands with Charlie Barnet, Charlie Ventura, Eddie Vinson and Count Basie.
Simmons, Charles James (1893-1875), politician and evangelical preacher, was born on 9 April 1893 at 30 Brighton Road, Mosley, Birmingham. His father, James Henry Simmons (1867-1941), was a master painter and his mother, Mary Jane (1872-1958), a schoolteacher. They were Primitive Methodists, temperance advocates, and Liberals. His maternal grandfather, Charles Henry Russell (1846-1918), a Liberal, Primitive Methodist lay preacher and friend of Joseph Arch (leader of the Agricultural Labourers’ Union and MP), shared the family home. Simmons described him as ‘the greatest influence during my formative years’, the well-spring of the religious and political activism that was to characterize his career (Simmons, 6). Educated at Board schools, Simmons left formal education at the age of fourteen for employment in an assortment of jobs, including a tailor’s porter, telegraph messenger and salesman.
Ferdinand Joseph LaMothe, more commonly known as Jelly Roll Morton, was born to a creole family in a poor neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. Terry Fox has become the poster child of the person who can overcome any obstacle and triumph over any adversity that stands in his way. This is important to Canada because he is a reflection of the character of Canadians that is seen around the world. Terry Fox has given Canada a true role model. Terry Fox has shown the world that Canadians are full with heart and determination. He has shown Canadians, and the world that perseverance will pay off. Terry Fox had all the obstacles lined up and he knocked them down, although the malignant tumor in his right leg finally overwhelmed Terry, he still overcame numerous obstacles. Terry Fox had dealt with the tumor in his leg and he overcame the amputation of his leg. He also managed to train for the marathon of hope even though overcoming a physical and emotional amputation. He also was able to start his run for the marathon of Hope, by an valiant attempt to run across Canada raising money as he ran. Even though Terry Fox did not complete his goal he still lives on today in our currency, stamps, and many more ways. Terry Fox has given Canada some one that they can try to measure up to.

Kenton was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 11, 1911, although he spent most of his youth in the Los Angeles area. He began studying piano and composition early with his mother and eventually with bandleader and pianist Earl "Fatha" Hines. Kenton was influenced by many different kinds of music other than jazz, including twentieth century composers Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, and Bela Bartok. Once he was a little older, Kenton began playing around in the Los Angeles and San Diego areas, and formed his first band in 1941, beginning his career as a bandleader. This film, directed by Alan Crosland, demonstrates new developments from the decade of the 1920’s. During the decade, many new advances; such as the introduction of musicals and other technological advancements, were created. The Jazz Singer utilized these new advances of the decade and incorporated them into each scene. This is evident due to the elements of being the first talkie film, the introduction of the new musical genre and the introduction of the Hollywood stars system.
