Biography of General Douglas MacArthur

The people in our country whom are respected and honored the most are people within the military. These people have great love and devotion for our country, that is why they are considered to be true Americans. One American who was in n the military and stood out during the second world war and post second world war was General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. MacArthur rose to the position General of the Army through hard work and dedication. He was an expert at war strategies, he led many victorious battles for the United States during WWII. After WWII the Korean war began and MacArthur was sent leading the UN army. However this war led MacArthur to his fall and caused him to lose his position as General of the Army.
MacArthur was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on January 26, 1880. He spent his early childhood in New Mexico where his dad was commander of an infantry company who protected settlers and railroad workers from indian menaces (A Brief Biography of Douglas MacArthur). When he was thirteen he attended the West Texas Military academy and later the West Point Military Academy where he graduated as a valedictorian in 1903 (A Brief Biography of Douglas MacArthur). A valedictorian is a person who has the highest academic achievements in the class and is honored in their graduation. He was later commissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers and served in the Philippines after he graduated, he worked his way up into getting promoted into first lieutenant in April 1904 (Douglas MacArthur). In 1911 he was promoted into Captain and in 1915 he was promoted into Major (A Brief Biography of Douglas MacArthur). ...anaged to remove Japanese occupation from the Philippines. Korea was MacArthurs last war he commanded in because of different views of winning the war between MacArthur and Truman. MacArthur wanted the easy way out of the war but he did not realize the consequences his resolution would bring. Because Truman declined the use of nuclear weapons in China, MacArthur went behind Truman to get the use of nuclear weapons approved. MacArthur made Truman look like he did not want to win in Korea and he was going to allow communism to spread. Truman would allow no one to disrespect him in any way and dismissing MacArthur was within his presidential power. MacArthur was a great man he had nothing but good intentions when serving his country, he had his moments where he was wrong but that did not make him a bad man. His contribution to our country will always be remembered.
