Life can change in the blink of an eye. Nicholas Sparks tells the life of a young couple with many struggles in his book, At First Sight, which was published in 2005 by Grand Central Publishing. This is a fictional love story that can be read by any young adult. This novel can be compared to The Wedding, which is another Nicholas Sparks book. These two books are similar because each book is character-driven and has a twisted end. At First Sight is a successful book because it strongly describes the setting, goes in depth with the events, and keeps the readers guessing.
It all started when Jeremy Marsh went to Boone Creek, North Carolina to find a topic to write about for his article in a magazine, Scientific American. He wanted a meritorious article that would out shine his other articles which were jaded. Jeremy then met Lexie which made him lose focus about writing. He spent a good amount of time with Lexie and then he found out they were going to be parents. Jeremy was so ferment that he asked her to marry him. Jeremy then went back to his hometown of New York to pack his things and move in with Lexie. His friend, Alvin, thinks Jeremy is rushing into the relationship and tries to expostulate him out of it. Alvin says, “You’re just rushing things, and there’s no reason to” (Sparks 9). Jeremy pays no attention to what Alvin says and keeps his decision.
Jeremy and Lexie get to Boone Creek. Boone Creek is such a nominal town he nearly missed the turn to get there the first time he visited. The whole reason he visited was because of Doris, Lexie’s occult grandmother. Jeremy and Lexie came by the restaurant she owned called the Herb to tell her about the marriage and the baby. ... but it has not. The doctor tells them, “This is what is known as an amniotic band” (Sparks 241). The doctor explains that if the band attaches to the fetus the baby could be born with ABS. The doctor exclaims that there is no way to know if the band will attach. Jeremy walks Lexie out to the car, she bursts into tears; Jeremy could not say anything to make her feel better.
After reading this novel, the readers will learn that trust is an important key to have in a relationship. If the person does not trust a friend or partner then relationships will have problems. Additionally, life is full of surprises, so living life to the fullest is the best way to live. At First Sight is successful; it described the setting, went in depth with events, and keep readers guessing.

The diverse alternation of point of views also provides the story an effective way to reach out to readers and be felt. The characterisation is effectively done and applied as Sam, Grace, and the other supporting characters play individual, crucial roles in the course of the story. All the elements of a typical young adult novel, consisting of a gap-filled relationship between children and parents, emotion-driven teenagers, and a unique conflict that makes the book distinct from fellow novels, combined with the dangerous consequences of the challenges the couple encounter, make the book different from all other of the same genre. The plot unfolds slowly giving readers enough time to adjust and anticipate the heavy conflict when it arises. It has gotten us so hooked but the only thing we could possibly dislike about it was the slow pace of plot. The anticipation was too much to handle and we were practically buzzing and bouncing to know how the story turns out as we read. I enjoyed how the book was written. I liked how the narrator makes me wonder how girls can be attracted to men that they do not even know. In my opinion, some point of this novel is very interesting but some points are too disturbing by the sexual teenage. The narrator provide the consideration point to the teenagers that the relationship between the boys and the girls do not important as much as the relationship between friends. In the Jailbait, Andi’s friends always ask her about her life and even consider her life more than her boyfriend. This makes me think about some people do not care about their friends, but when they get in trouble, friends are always there. Friends always talk to you, hug you, and make you do not feel lonely, whereas, the relationship of boys and girls can break up whenever two people are not understand or just feel bored with each
“They saved their lives… and treated [them] like family.” (page 161) Megan learned how to trust again and recognized that although they have met many malicious and egocentric people, there were still benevolent humans in the world. Also, her relationship with Ian is put to the test when Ian refused to leave and admitted that “Mitch [was] like a dad, [and he] made him feel important.” (page 157) She felt dishonoured, because she had been doing her best to take care of him for she desires to fulfill her promise to her mom. Her efforts were tremendous yet Ian did not appreciate her. In Spite of this challenge, it brings them closer together and Ian becomes more courteous to Megan. Lastly, “If [they] did not like it [in Lundbreck]... [they] were welcome back to their home.” (page 163) This comes straight from Sadie’s words and she assures Megan a backup plan. In summary, one will find this book to be an exciting read. There was an original plot, a female lead, and character development to appeal to all types of readers. After reading this science fiction novel, one will know to keep their friends close and their enemies closer.
The first time one experiences betrayal from a close friend is the hardest situation to go through. Betrayal is clearly defined as to break the faith of an enemy, or to disclose a violation of confidence; but more specifically, and with less clarity in real life situations, betrayal is a complex action that occurs to everyone at some point in life. Then they see a person coming towards them. It turns out to be Muley Graves, an old friend. The three of them start to talk for a long time about what is going on in the area. Then Muley tells Tom that his family is staying with his Uncle John. The next morning Tom and the preacher set out to Uncle John's house. When they get there Tom surprises his dad and whole family with his sudden arrival. Soon after Tom learns that the entire family is going to go west, to California.
