What is art? Art is the self-expression of someone of something that shows the hidden or underlying emotions that are found within the unconscious mind. Art has been around for centuries (“Merriam-Webster”). Normally, art would tell stories of past events which were significant to that culture. This could include things such as hunts and sacrifices to please the gods. As people and humanity started to evolve and become more civilized, art started to transform and take on a new appearance as well. From being a story prop to something that is more abstract; art started to become more and more important in the lives of people. During the renaissance in Europe, many new artists and ways of thinking emerged and became the main-stream way of thinking. Many of those artist are household names such as Vincent Van Gogh and Leonardo da Vinci . They transformed art from what it was to how we see it today (Belliveau). Jumping forward from the renaissance to the 1960’s, you have artists emerge such as Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollok. They pushed the boundaries of art and how it was perceived in society (American Art Therapy Association). When one talks about art there are many aspects that they could be talking about. Art could be seen as a painting but it could also be seen as a sculpture or sketch. When thinking about art the possibilities of how it could be used is endless. Art could be used in interior decorating or designing something extraordinary but it could also be used as self-expression of suppressed feelings that are unknown to the consciousness. People from all around the world suffer from many different anxieties and troubles. They turn to things they enjoy so that they can forget reality and be somewhat happy or simply to communicate with one another. Most of the enjoyment is temporary and not sufficient, that is why they continue doing what they do. Creative Arts Therapy, also known as Expressive Arts Therapy, helps those who find themselves completely lost and have nowhere to go or anyone to go to. They can express themselves however they please. In order to better understand arts therapy one must have a knowledge of creativity, emotions and, of course, people.
Art, unlike other words cannot be characterized by one simple definition; the meaning of art is much more than a surface level interpretation. Over many centuries, art has proved to be a way people can express themselves, plays a role in shaping cultures, and allows for communication through many different ways of expression. Art can either take a lifetime to study or can be as straightforward as graffiti on the side of a popular building. The topic of art has been largely controversial dating back to Mo Tzu, and the wide dispute has only evolved over centuries. There are ways to examine the different realms art touches, and how it has evolved over time. While art is widely discussed in many forms, one thing is for sure, art provides an outlet
We encounter art everyday. Art is paintings and sculptures, music and dance, film and photography. It is also fashion designing and architecture, novels and magazines. These seemingly different things have one thing in common – they are all ways in which humans convey themselves. For thousands of years, humans have used symbols to tell a story or describe a struggle. Art is the use of these symbols, symbols that represent us in some distinct way.
It is art fulfilling its role in society. It is art that brings the moral issues. It is art that makes us human.

Art, what is Art? It is an ambiguous matter: without an exact form, an exact meaning. Does it have any rules or restrictions? However, it can be a great influence on the lives of people. In the novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, two lovers have fell in and out of love due to Art!
If I were to ask you what is art, and how can one find it? What would you say? Well if it were me being asked those question, I would simply say that art to me is a form of a picture; a visual painting or model of some design and it could be found all among us. You may define it differently only because art could be defined in many ways. I could simply say that art to me is a form of a picture; a visual painting or model of some design. Well according to an article written by Shelley Esaak, an art history expert she mentioned that art has a way of stimulating different parts of our brains to make us laugh or incite us to riot, with a whole gamut of emotions in between. She also mentioned that art gives us a way to be creative and express ourselves. [1]

Art therapy is well known in the therapeutic field but not very well known amongst adolescents and adults, my job is to inform people who are unaware. In many cases art therapy can be used with other psychotherapy techniques such as group therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy, it is a very diverse field when it comes to its range of limits. Not everyone can creatively suspect the act of art would help their mental state of mind but art therapists were put here to prove those people wrong. Through the findings of my research I have found interesting and important reasons why one might become an active art therapist, and discovered the therapeutic process of how to diagnose and treat their patients. My curiosities also lead me to wonder when art therapy originated, which I found dated back all the way to the 1940’s by a woman named Margaret Nawmburg. By researching art therapy it taught me the real importance of an art therapist job and how their service helps ones in need.
Art is an expression of feelings, body language, and culture produced by humans. Art can be expressed in many different ways, and in many different forms from time to time! You’d be amazed with the different types of skilled work artists come up with each day and it’s all just someone, one person expressing how they feel or what they believe. One form of art that I find very interesting is Fauvism.

Throughout the ages art has played a crucial role in life. Art is universal and because art is everywhere, we experience it on a daily basis. From the houses we live in (architecture) to the movies we see (theatre) to the books that we read (literature). Even in ancient culture art has played a crucial role. In prehistoric times cave dwellers drew on the wall of caves to record history. In biblical times paintings recorded the life and death of Christ. Throughout time art has recorded history. Most art is created for a specific reason or purpose, it has a way of expressing ideas and beliefs, and it can record the experiences of all people.
Art is one of the most intriguing and exiting forms of human expression. A picture can tell a thousand words and often stir up feelings inside the viewer. Art is all around us.buildings,electronic equipment like a computer, and even automobiles are all a form of art.
There are many different kind of expressive art therapy applied in mental health setting. According to Malchiodi (2005), expressive art therapy includes the use of “art/ music, dance/movement, drama, poetry/creative writing, play, and sand-tray within the context of psychotherapy, counselling, rehabilitation, or health care” (p. 2). Art therapists support clients through using different media or materials to express and reflect on their different intrinsic dynamic (Knill, Barba, & Fuchs, 1995) that could not be easily articulated by words.
