The Anzacs were made up of 5 million Australian and 110,000 New Zealand troops who joined the army by choice. They made a significant contribution to the Gallipoli campaign. I am going to investigate whether the views of Anzac soldiers in sources A, B and C are useful by investigating the sources and assessing the usefulness and limitations for each source. All of the sources are useful but have their limitations. Source A shows two cartoons drawn by an Australian artist, on the peninsula in 1915. The cartoons were published in The Anzac Book in 1916. The first cartoon is titled ‘The Hopeless Dawn’. This could be telling us about morale of the Anzacs, it could also suggest time in the morning hence why the soldier is yawning. The caption ‘standing to! – 4:30a.m.’ suggests that the soldier is ready to go as this was the time attacks started however he doesn’t look it as he seems very relaxed. He is stood in a comfortable position, yawning showing that he is tired, also he doesn’t seem scared by the concept of war suggesting that the Anzacs were brave and fearless. The second pictur...
